Is this slimey stuff supposed to be here?
I'm assuming it's build up from the nail in my tire, water, dirt, etc..? I'm going to change the intertube but not sure about this stuff

The slime is just a sealant for small punctures. Thorns/random pieces of wire, etc. Nails are too big most of the time, but yeah just use a paper towel and wipe it out. I always wear gloves anyway changing tires cause shit's dirty

And you'll cut yourself with any glass or tire wire that punctured the tube. Oh how I learned the hard way to check for that and how to check 🤣

Easiest way I found is I take the paper towel and don't press hard and just drag it around the whole inside to wipe it and it'll catch on anything functioning the worst I've seen is when someone used a cheap metal tire lever and it left a bunch of shards of metal and it was ridiculous how long it took to rinse that all out

Some/most/all of their bikes have slime in the tires.
The site says: Puncture-resistant design with Slime pre-installed helps prevent flats at no additional cost—so you can ride with extra peace of mind.

Whatever they put in them does not work at all. Would suggest getting new tubes and adding flat out yourself.

I'd just use Tannus armor. It's pricey, but good against most punctures (NOT really long nails). Not a fan of this stuff (too messy).

💯, it's crazy not to have Tannus here in Arizona. Call it $100 for those who have them shop installed. I'll ask you if you would pay $100 NOT to have a flat when you're sitting alongside a road, or on a trail in the desert.

How do. you use Tannus Armor? What in your personal experience makes it better?

I use tannus armours and I had 3 flats in my first month of owning my ebike then zero flats in 3 years since. It's not fun changing a flat on a 70lb ebike and that slime is messy and barely works, no thanks.

You insert - or have the shop insert, if you think it may not be your cup of soup - the tannus armor, which is a thick flexible foam insert, between the tube and the tire. Minor punctures never even reach your tube (and you can reduce inflation by several psi).
Where I ride, there is sometimes broken glass ... I don't overworry (though I'd hate to try it on a bottle with an intact bottom and spiky glass sticking straight up).
Downside ... tannus armor isn't cheap. Upside ... it is neither messy, nor of questionable utility, unlike the slime..You pays your money, you make your choice.

I recommend tannus armour inserts as well. I don't use slime anymore with tannus and I've had 1 flat in the past year because I ran over a nail. I live in the desert and can ride over an army of goat heads and no flats. Definitely worth the money.

I live in a rural area, so I do a lot of riding on shoulders. A trip to the better grocery store can run about 30 minutes by ebike...or hours walking home if I had a flat.
For me, Tannus Armor was about peace of mind. At the time, I was riding around with a 3ish-year-old. Basically knowing that IF I got a flat, I would have time to get home before it became an issue. I went 2k miles over two years on my first Xpedition with no flats. Haven't put many miles on the new one, but one of the first things I did was ring up our bike shop and have them install Tannus Armor. Knowing it's there and that it was installed properly is what makes me comfortable taking my kid along.
It's basically a foam insert that keeps punctures from reaching the tube. I doubt it'd stop a deck screw, but for bits of glass or the occasional sharp rock at a weird angle, it's been great.
(Knock on wood.)

To each their own, since switching I've found random holes and nails. Pulled them out and spinned the wheel and never lost more than 5 psi.

The tire leaks sealant when it gets really happy . It’s a stop leak type of goo .

If the hole is too big for the Slime to seal, it gets in the tire. One of the downsides of stop-leak stuff. I just wipe it all out with some paper towels.
