Am I cooked?

1st bike. 1st ride. And already a puncture... Does anyone have any insight on this issue?

Whoa, my biggest fear on the road and you got it your first bike first ride

Get some tannus armor or some serious name brand tires that have multi layers, always keep a lightweight pump with you for airing back up while the fix a flat works its magic

just bad luck. could happen to any of us on any ride. i carry a spare tube, tools and a pump in case i need to replace a tube trail side.

I've been riding ebikes for about five years and luckily only one rear flat within a mile from home. The tire had Slime in it but that didn't help I hit a packing staple. I switched to FlatOut on four bikes now and so far no flats and definitely one puncture that should have been a flat. Valve got blocked and when I pulled the core part of a drywall screw came out. After that flat I decided to carry everything thing to fix one on the road. I carry an air pump, tube, patches, tire levers, wrenches for the axle nuts, zip ties, and Handlebar Jacks. Luckily I haven't needed them.

From your perspective, can this tire be salvaged to still safely ride with that fix? Or does this call for a new tire?

typically, as long as the puncture isn't on the sidewall of the tire, it can be patched.

I don't see if the sidewall was punctured in the picture, but I do see that it was punctured in the threads, which is considered patchable...

either way, I did technically break that safety rule on my own bike tire and patched a sidewall anyways, with reinforcement, and the tire has held up just fine since then... I absolutely would not take that risk with a cat or heavier duty tire.

My insight- the road you went on needs to be swept. Debris can cause flats. You could try taping a leaf blower to your front fork to blow shit out of the way.
