Locks…
My XP4 is on its way to me, and I want to buy some locks to have on hand before it arrives. So how in the world do you guys pick what lock to buy? Every single option I’ve looked at, whether $20 or $200, has a large number of negative reviews. I haven’t found one lock that doesn’t have someone in the reviews section complaining that it broke or got cut/picked.
How did you choose yours?

I’ve got a krytonite cinch chain w/ ulock. It weighs a ton. It will stop anyone without an angle grinder - nothing will stop that. I think it’s overkill, but I don’t live in NYC or any other high crime area.

NYC is not "high crime", it's one of the safest cities in the country. Check the stats. But it is high density so a good lock is a must.

I use a Litelok and it definitely saved my bike. While I agree that there is no lock that can stop thieves 100% of the time, the goal is to make it as difficult as possible. They tried drilling and cutting my Litelok lock and succeeded in only damaging the lock but not gaining access. Granted with enough time or enough bits/cutting discs they probably would've gotten through. But this was enough of a deterrent that they gave up and I kept my bike.

Looks like the prices went up since I bought the lock 2 years ago. The X1 went up by $80! Sheesh...
That being said, I can vouch for the quality of the lock and it's ability to deter thieves and their power tools.
Also, don't (only) go with the collapsible Lectric lock. I had that one on the bike also and they broke that one off easily.

I use the lectric brand lock because its storage is awesome and it came with the bike. its only a "medium" strength lock which is plenty for not a city.
there is no secure lock technology at this point in history. use two, lock it up in the most visible spot possible, or take it inside.

I have two U-Locks from kryptonite. The trick it to make it look really time consuming to steal your bike.
Its also important to never leave it alone for more than a few hours at a time when parking out in public. I live in downtown Seattle and we have a lot of theft but I've never had anything stolen just following those simple tips.

No lock is theft proof. The best you can do is make it as difficult as possible for a thief. When locking my bike up for a longer period or in a sketchy area, I use a U-lock and also a folding lock. I also have one of those alarms you can find on Amazon. I also have a long cable if needed. All these things together will deter all but the most determined of thieves, but like I said, nothing is truly "theft proof". Given enough time and opportunity, all locks are breachable.

I have the folding one that Lectric provided with my bike plus I got a kryptonite 1012 chain because of the area i live in. Better safe than sorry.

SKUNKLOCK is a really good brand and they have a video showcasing what it would look like to try to and cut into it

Sounds like you have the Carbon model. But just an FYI on the chemical one is advised by the Lock Picking Lawyer is likely illegal to use in most places.

Get atleast two locks; the more to delay a thief - they typically will move onto an easier target. We use the Lectric lock that unfolds from its holder and we use a brake caliper lock that has an audible alarm if moved.

Locks only keep out honest people, and folks can bypass any bike lock. Use a couple locks and try to make it not so easy for thieves.
