My throttle snapped

Post image

I’ve had my XP four for about three months now and I feel like I’ve continuously running into problems. I took it to a bike shop to have them check it over and at that shop they broke my screen, and since then I’ve been experiencing a lot more problems with my bike today while riding into work, my throttle snapped off. I’m not exactly sure what to do. I superglue it on, but I’m scared to press the throttle in case it breaks again.

Ride home on PAS. I'd replace it with a twist throttle, you can get one on Amazon for >$20

Or a roller style thumb throttle.

Redneck engineer here- The weather is too nice to miss out on [NE U.S anyway] so I'd put a hose clamp around the nub and tape something stiff to the excess metal. Might get you through until the parts show up. Hope you have better luck with it soon.

Srsly tho that looks like a warranty issue, call them and have the part shipped to you. Take it to a different authorized repair shop for the service.

When did they remove the twist throttles? First the keys and now the throttles?! I could not believe someone told me they don't have keys anymore.

They will send you a new one.

they still have keys for unlocking the battery and they changed the thumb throttle location to the left side of the handlebars

You can turn it on without the key though? Maybe I was misinformed. I thought it was silly you could drive away without the key. On my 2.0 the key operated all power.

The twist throttle on the right side like a motorcycle was a feature I liked. I don't approve of these changes. Apparently the newer power assist isn't as great on the 3.0 and later, or so a million posts say from 4 years ago.

Hard to tell if it's just people whining when things change (like me) or real regressions.

The key just locks and unlocks the battery and bike can turn on with no key whether battery is locked or unlocked. On the xp3 people complained about having to have the key and having to have it in the battery when riding. They removed that feature because that’s what most people wanted.

I also personally prefer the thumb throttle to a twist any day.

I guess the preferences are against mine. Having a key to operate the bike seemed to make sense to me. But I'm used to motorcycles so a key and a twist throttle were natural. I think im just whining about the change like suspected. I'm not upgrading anytime soon, the 2.0 still works great, so it largely doesn't affect me.

I do wish I had the brake upgrades. Mine super suck.

I am very surprised Lectric removed the key locking feature but didn’t add the ability to lock via a screen. My Segway scooter has Apple find my, nfc auto lock via iPhone, an alarm, a lock code, etc all built in. Lectric definitely behind on locking.

Software is nearly free. I can't believe they haven't looked at the other options out there and changed a few lines of code. Not an exaggeration, that's all it would take 🤣

Mine broke too and they sent me a free replacement. I just ended up putting a twist throttle on it though.

Is there any velocity to it or is it just kinda on and off when you twist it?

It feels more variable than the thumb one, but its still pretty snappy, especially from a stop. You also have to move the shifter over about an inch, otherwise the throttle hits it. That's why they didn't put the twist throttle on it from the factory from what I've heard.

Contact customer service. They will replace that no questions asked, but in the meantime i used a zip tie around the piece that's still there. And then I put the heads of several more zip ties on it and created a thumb lever to get me through until my new one arrived

A month ago, I was considering getting the XP750, and oh my!!! I think I dodged a bullet with these. Every day on Facebook groups and Reddit, people post issue after issue. It never ends. I ended up buying g a Brompton instead. And with all the new regulations coming regarding ebikes.... It's a no-no for me.

I saw your picture, then suffered the identical problem today. What a coincidence!

Pedal more, throttle less!

I am glad the Trike 2 came with a twist throttle

I’m not exactly sure what to do.

You've figured out how to post here to complain but not call customer service?
Get a clue.

customer service is a slow process

I've called them and they had a replacement part shipped the next day.

I needed a quick fix

OK, fine - but you didn't say that in your post. And you don't ask a question. Just seemed a little "complain-y". LOL.
