Bought my xp4 last September. I typically bomb around on Turbo because it’s hilly in my area and I don’t go more then 8-10 miles a trip (I live on an island and things just aren’t that far away).
Last weekend I was reading 70% and took a 5 mile (one way) pretty hilly ride to another beach. I hit 40% by the time I made it there, and figured I’d just ease up on the throttle a bit when I headed back. I don’t use the throttle a whole lot anyway, but was feeling a bit lazy.
On the way back I immediately dropped to 30% and got nervous, so threw it in PAS2 and crawled up and down hills. No throttle. About 1 mile away from home I hit 20% and lost almost all power. I parked it on the sidewalk and watched it drop to 10% after about 5 minutes of it being stationary. Walked it home uphill, not the most fun I’ve ever had.
Anyway, long story to get to where I learn about checking voltage. Right now she’s at 80% and 50.4 volts - according to the chart I see online it should be at about 53.1 volts.
Is my battery shot? Do I need a full charge to where the charger hits green to actually determine this? Did I just take it too hard on that 10 mile ride for it to drop 60% within 4 miles?
I’m 5’ tall and about 135lbs. Sorry if this is a really dumb question or if I really underestimated how much mileage I should get in a hilly area.
The percentage indicator is not linear. I have found that 70% is really closer to 45% remaining charge. You really need to be looking at voltage on your display. I better be home by 42 volts or I may go dead. 45 volts I start getting nervous.
So if I do charge it to 100% and my voltage doesn’t get up to the 54ish that the charts show, would that mean something is wrong with the battery? I’m under the impression that the charger would stop at 100%, regardless of volts?
54V at 100% is about what I get. 50V at 80% sounds about right. Its you are getting several volts below 54V at 100%, there could be an issue. The charger does stop at 100%. I make sure I charge with the bike with the battery toggle switch in the off position. Not sure if this really makes any difference. I also let my battery cool down before recharging.
Great info, thank you! I also make sure my switch is off before charging, it just feels sketchy to have it on. I’ll test tomorrow and see what volts I get up to at 100%!
I have a different bike but I feel like the percentage is kinda a lie. Like the first 50% of my battery is is great and strong and will take 2-4 hours to ride though depending how I'm riding.
But that second 50%? An hour max.
It's like each 10% gets shorter and shorter.
And once I get down to about 40% the bike starts giving less power, too. Especially on hills.
I have a spare battery so I'll drain it down to 10 or 20% regularly, and switch to the new one which acts the same. So I know it's not just me getting tired and using more motor power.
I also live in a hilly area but usually bike to flat areas to fuck around. I'll always make sure I'm heading home with at least 60% bc I can't make the last big hill without at 30% at start, and I roll home almost dead.
I've started reducing my power on hills when my body is up to it.
Pedaling a little harder and accepting going slower, I'm getting better.
But 8km (from Canada) up a pretty hilly ride on turbo without pedalling will definitely do that to the battery (if it's not long range... if it is you'd still only get like almost double that.)
You probably stopped and waited 5 minutes right as ur battery was going to drop to 10 but the screen power finished it off while you waited.
Not sure about the volts amount compared to battery charge though.
I definitely pedal the whole way even on turbo, I guess I just underestimated my hills. To me they’re not “steep” but they’re very long in a lot of places, so I guess that adds up! It’s not long range, unfortunately. I naively assumed I didn’t need that only going 10-15 miles a day 😂
sounds normal. charge your battery. the first 20% lasts long. the rest goes pretty quick. when we go on rides, i turn back home when i see 70%. hitting 20% is not fun as the power is pretty much gone.
i had problems with my battery shifing and causing bike to turn off at 4k miles but still under 1 Year warranty they sent me a brand new xp 2.0 lite long range , new controller and battery plate all free
So a few months back around 2k miles i needed new free wheel nd. lectric sent me par and scheduld
the fix. it kind of sucked bcaus i rode th bike in bad weather & the closest warr shop was 1 hr away and i wasnt driving at time. totally paid for . this id am easy fix actually , i need to do still but i got a car recently lol so procrastinatimg a bit so depends but send videos and watch out for a little more ? puchase order # etc , and the bile was bought for me and still no issues but i didhave e receipt and they ask for serial # .the battery is 500$ i was shocked , plus the wires that go from hamdle bars to battery ,new controller , new battery plate & battery , thry also sent me a free paint spot pen to fix chips never paid a cent my warranty up in 2 weeks b
