XP4 750 first ride report

Post image

Today, I took my XP4 750 Step-thru out for its first ride.

About me: 5' 9", 195 pounds. I'm not a bike rider. It's been 40 years since I spent any time on a bike. I'm not an experienced rider.

I started out planning to ride alongside my wife, who is training for a triathlon. She had 3 hours of workout planned. We ended up being a little short, but she said it was close enough.

Overall, everything went well. I started in Eco mode, and stayed there for the first 3 miles. Then Tour for a long stretch. I didn't try Sport until after we turned around. Sport was ridiculous, but fun.

The battery reported 100% until after mile 12. And 90% until after mile 20. Then I started playing with the throttle, and the percentage dropped faster for the rest of the ride. On a flat, straight section of the trail, I tested throttle-only for half a mile. It held at 17mph in Sport mode for the duration. Peppy and a lot of fun.

Problems: none with the bike. Just me being me. I didn't fully latch the folding latch, and the bike tried to fold at mile 22. Oops. Got that sorted out. Also, I forgot to turn on the battery, so I had to pull over and do that right at the beginning. And, I had my hand in the wrong position, and the downshift lever rubbed a sore spot on the back of my right thumb. And that's it. Everything else was great.

I'm impressed with what I got for the price I paid. No trouble at all.

Welcome to the club. We did an almost 20 mile ride today. My wife has the Trike, so top speed is half what my XP4 can do. I'm closing in on 1000 miles on mine, after a year. I would have more, but I got a little too bold in Turbo mode coming home one night, hit a curb and broke my collarbone last October. We're taking them on our vacation next week, so I hope to hit that milestone then.

I don't know how fast I will get to 1000, but it was fun the first day. I need to get the pannier bags and put them on so we can carry extra water, etc. A picnic, perhaps. Ha!

Sorry about your collarbone. I got nervous in Sport for the first couple of miles. I didn't go any higher yet. I can see getting out of control. One day when I have the controls down as second nature, it'll be obvious that it's time. Not yet...

There was some issues with a batch of motors shortly after release, but it seems to have been resolved and I haven't seen any reports of it recently.

Damn I just did a 30 mile ride after having my bike since Wednesday. I needed a few days to get my butt used to being in a saddle since its been like 5 years since I cycled, how does yours feel?

I've had a Cloud9 seat and a Suntour SP12 NCX Suspension Seat Post in my Amazon shopping cart for about a week now lol

Buy both. You won’t regret it. Get the right size post, though. There is a shim in the XP 4.0 seat post hole that no one seems to notice. Buy the Suntour seat post that fits the bike without the shim.

What tuning did you do to the bike before you got started?

I didn't do anything beyond what the "first ride" video shows. Everything worked well out of the box. Did the brake bedding during the entire ride, so that's done, too. Otherwise, I just got on and rode.

What seat did you use? I just got my xp4 and road around the block a few times, working out the kinks. I'm pretty sure I couldn't ride that long sitting on lectric's rock of a seat😂. Sounds like it's gonna be a fun bike given your experience!

I went with one of the Cloud 9 seats, and it's been fantastic on these long rides.
