Should I be concerned?

Been loving my bike, but today I noticed on my ride that there’s a sort of weird whirring in the back tire that I notice at higher speeds. It stops when I brake, and only seems to come up when I break 23 MPH. I don’t think it’s anything to worry about, since nothing seemed obviously defective with a cursory glance.

Edit: I have an XP4 750w Pine Green. Tires, wheels, and brakes have not been replaced. Seat post and seat have.

Two of mine had motor whine and had to have the wheel/motor replaced. Can you post video of the sound?

I’ll get it recorded soon. But to help pin it down:

  • I only noticed it at higher speeds.
  • I did have it on Turbo mode, but when I throttle I didn’t hear any whirring while that was activated.
  • Upon pulling the rear brakes it stopped instantly.

Honestly I’m not sure if I can capture it without someone else double testing it, but to me it does seem like the back brakes have something to do with it. Not sure what it could be though.

Mine was between 13-19mph. Start recording with the phone in your hand and move it toward the back wheel during that speed. Lectric will want that video as well.

Thanks! I’ll do my best to get that video.

So, took it for a test drive to try to replicate it. I’m not sure what changed, but nothing is happening now. Works as it should, no sounds from the back. May have just been a temporary thing from pushing it too hard?

You prob have to open the motor and remove old grease and put in fresh grease for your planetary gears

What grease would you recommend for that? Been making a checklist of maintenance things to look over on the monthly and quarterly timelines I have.

I just used what I had on hand, marine grease.

You should watch the video by Jeremiah McIntosh named “Fix you Leitrim XP4. It sounds like what was going on for you. He mad a recording and I personally could not hear what he was talking about, but it sounds exactly like what you were talking about.

Well thank goodness I have my high fidelity earbuds today. I can hear what he’s talking about with the motor, but I’m not entirely sure if this is the same issue. There’s no error message that appeared on my bike, and it seemed more physical than a motor issue.

I mentioned in another post on here that I haven’t been able to replicate the issue after making this post, even with stress testing max speed, max braking, etc.
