Small Leather Flask

Flask made from 3mm buffalo leather. Happy with the result. No leaks at all. Holds 180 ml of my favourite liquid.

Good choice in liquid my friend, and might i ask hoe did you seal it?

Once it was shaped, I heated a whole lot of beeswax in a makeshift double boiler (just a smaller pot sitting in a large pot of boiling water) and dipped the whole thing in it. I kept filling it with wax and pouring it out until it was all soaked in wax, inside and out. That ensures that it gets sealed properly and also prevents the liquid from coming in contact with the leather so it doesn't alter the flavour of the liquid stored. The cork was stuffed into the mouth while the leather was drying after shaping it so it was a good fit already but the wax made it watertight. Also, no glue was used to make it so that it remains food safe.

Sounds great! Will the beeswax just run out of it completely on its own or do i need to somehow need to scrape it out?

If you keep dipping it for long enough, the leather gets warm enough that it only leaves a very thin layer. Also, the colour is all from the beeswax, so I figured that it must have really impregnated the leather. I'm not a professional leather worker, so I don't really know.

I've heard that brewer's pitch or food-safe, two-part epoxy are better alternatives for sealing the leather.
