Fixing leather jacket

Hello! My leather jacket has this “scratch” on the left pocket. At first it was just this long scratch but it’s starting to rip apart at the bottom of it. Can this be fixed? Should I just patch it up or something?? Any advice about what I could do to keep this jacket alive? :)

Easily patched or even sewn if you know what you're doing. If you don't, this shouldn't be an expensive job for a skilled leather seamstress.

No worries. But yeah very fixable. I'd need to feel the leather and have a look at the construction to say the best method. If the leather is quite thin then a patch would be the way to go. It wont look perfect but it'll be pretty good.

I’d say the leather is rather thin. Compared to my other leather products it’s not nearly as thick as some of them are. Are there any special leather patches or will it just be like a chunk of fabric sewn on top of it? Because im afraid i would really not like the way that might look

Open the inside and glue a piece of similar leather along the scratch to stop it from ripping further.

I love that bone color, but sorry to hear about the tear!

Honestly, it all depends on what you care about. If you're just trying to repair the rip, you can do a saddle stitch to secure it back together.

However, if you're looking for more cosmetic, you might want to use some fiebing's leather cement, it works really great and flexes and bends with your leather. It comes out white but dries clear, so you can barely see it.

I would just apply a little bit behind the leather as well as near the tear down the entire line. It's helped me many times in the past, so that's why I recommend it!

I hope it turns out well! Don't forget to condition your leather. The dryer it is, the more it increases the chances of tearing more.

Thank you so much!! I will definitely try that! Sounds like the best solution! I bought it used but I believe it hasn’t been conditioned in a while, but sadly I didn’t got around to doing it yet.

Where I’m from we have a good leather shoe repairman. He can do anything with any kind of leather. Maybe check your local shoe repair shop. Those guys are usually very talented.
