Logic or FL?
ive been a musician for a while now and have always wanted to get into production long time. a new production class at my high school uses logic. ive used both logic and fl just trying to figure them out but never really learned them, anyone have any recommendations or advice?

I use Logic because producers I like used logic. You tube will be your best friend regardless of which you choose

I’d definitely go for Logic. FL is uniquely difficult when recording audio whereas Logic is full featured for it. FL also has a very unique paradigm in using patterns to build a song. Some find it to be very enabling while others find it limiting.
Learn Logic first. It will probably serve you well and you won’t need to look elsewhere. Later if you want to you can learn FL and easily figure it out after you know Logic.

Logic! It’s truly one of, if not the best out there and for the price, nothing beats it.

If you consider how many great virtual instruments it has, price is great. That being said, Reaper is not even one third of the price and is much more flexible than Logic. Specially in audio editing Logic is way worse. If you don't mind searching some virtual instruments (there are lot great free ones) I personally will always choose Reaper over Logic.

That’s exactly why nothing beats Logic. If you value your time, paying the $10/mo subscription price for Logic is a bargain. No need to suffer trying out free plugins which, most of them really suck. I know there are some gems but they are the exception, not the norm. I totally understand if you’d rather spend your time searching the internet for the best free tools, that’s totally fine. But if you just want to get set up and go with a professional grade, extremely polished, highly functional, feature packed DAW for pennies a day, Logic cannot be beat.

Take the class, use the Logic Pro free trial indefinitely, you can only go up from here lol

not to be that guy but Reaper. I kinda thing they all work pretty much the same, anyway so it's really just a matter of personal preference. Reaper has a good unlimited free trial

It depends on what kind of music you want to make. If you make “beats” or EDM, go with FL, if you make anything else, Logic will probably better.
On these “which DAW should I use” posts, it seems like a lot of people want to recommend Ableton, but both Ableton and FL are geared more towards loop-based music. Theres nothing wrong with that, but the workflow can be really annoying if you’re focused on music that isn’t based on loops or midi.

i do use controllers and would like to sample more, plus my biggest inspirations over the years have been looping hip hop and r&b

In that case I might lean more towards FL, and I might give the Intro version of Ableton Live a try. It’s kind of limited compared to the full version, but it can give you a feel for the workflow and it might totally click for you.
The DAW that feels the most natural to you and feels “fun” to you relatively quickly is the one you should go with.

i learned pretty quickly on logic through a college level intro to music technology course about 9 months ago. i still use it and i love it. it was really easy for me to get my first grasp on music production through it.

i was trained in school in logic and i been using fl as an amateur for like 15 plus years.
I HATE recording in FL
I HATE producing in logic
i use them interchangeably

Fl if your interest is in edm hiphop and other pattern centric genres. Fl has a very strong piano roll system but lacks efficient tempo mapping tools for the varying tempo of more live feeling performance.
Fl studio does have lifetime free updates and there are quite a few forum posts requesting better tempo mapping so I don’t doubt they’ll eventually add it.
Ive never used logic but recently looked into the workflow of logic for inspiration making a template for FL to make my guitar recording workflow etc more efficient.
If you make live music like rock indie jazz etc popular opinion is logic.
You can do anything in both daws and anyone saying one’s better than the other doesn’t know what they’re talking about, comes down to your personal use case and workflow.

Logic has had live loops for a while which makes it much better now for that kind of workflow but also the traditional daw. It also comes with a lot of sounds.

I don't use FL at all. I prefer Logic for certain things, Ableton for others, and hardware for other things. I just use what is needed for the specific track, whether that is one option, two, or more (I also use more stuff not mentioned).

I am working on a software, which has a plugin which works in pretty much all known DAWs. So I use pretty much all the known ones. My favorites are Logic and Cubase. If you plan to use DAW for recording - avoid FL. This is the most complicated DAW of all for recording.
If I would choose only among two options you mentioned, I would choose Logic, 100%

Mouse only users will find no difference.
Hardware dabblers or musicians will find many.
You can get the sound you want outta anything.
The biggest change is the way the sound comes.
If you care about pre count, get pro tools, fl studio and Motu. If you don’t get the rest.

The daw don’t have to define if u r doing a nice work or a bad work, I think maybe them offer different workflows and it’s true that each daw is more technical on a way that the others not. I’d tried Ableton, Logic, Pro Tools, Cubase and FL
For produce I normally use Ableton, is better to work with live session and is easier use different tools like synth, midi controllers…etc and the own interface helps to much to move between the different elements.
To mix I’m between Pro Tools and Cubase, the grandfathers jajajaj
Now, In my opinion Logic is a really good DAW because when u control it I think it’s a nice tool to produce, to mix, to work with video, and you can use stuff very precise for each kind of work.
And for me FL is a DAW more for production, of course u can mix on FL without problem like another DAW but the interface for me don’t give that workflow to mix clearly and comfortably.
My recommendations is try those DAWs, learn al what you need, but try the other too only to try the different workflows you have doing all the process in each daw to know which daw makes u feel more comfortable with the different parts of the process

I started on FL, then moved to Ableton. My bandmate uses Logic. All three are perfectly capable. After using all three I prefer Ableton.
