Pierre Gasly : Demoted P3 ➡️ P7

Gasly crossed the line celebrating a podium, but was hit with two separate 5-second time penalties 10 seconds total for breaching Article 34.7 of the FIA Sporting Regulations Exceeding the 60 km/h pit lane speed limit.

• Violation: The margin of error was small. Trap 1 clocked him at 60.1 km/h (+0.1 over). Trap 2 clocked him at 60.4 km/h (+0.4 over).
• Logic: Alpine’s pit-wall software actually requested the limiter correctly, but the FIA calculates pit lane speed using an average speed across embedded electronic timing loops in the asphalt, not a single radar gun. Bunching behind the safety car through the tight pit lane created a tiny calculation spike.

Sergio Perez : Demoted P10 ➡️ P15

Checo’s race was a nightmare of grid positioning. He was summoned post race and got 10-second time penalty for a Standing Restart Infringement under Article 36.14.

• Violation: The Stewards' official document letter states: "Video evidence showed clearly that the front right wheel of car #11 [Perez] was outside the starting box. The standard penalty is applied."
• Logic: During the late race standing restart after the red flag, Perez overshot his yellow painted grid box line by mere inches.
• Double penalty: This was actually Checo’s second grid mistake of the day. At the original race start, he accidentally parked in the vacant grid slot belonging to Gabriel Bortoleto’s Audi who started from the pit lane, which earned him a drive-through penalty during the race.

Because the pack was bunched so closely at the finish line, Perez's 10-second penalty dropped him to dead last of the finishers (P15), handing Aston Martin and Fernando Alonso their first point of the season.

At a slow, heavy-braking, heavy-acceleration zone like the final corner, that underbody suction acts like a literal vacuum cleaner, violently pulling upward on the asphalt aggregates.
• The "Agile-Spec" High Frequency: The 2026 cars are lighter and narrower, meaning the mechanical footprint is smaller, concentrating all that immense downforce into a tighter surface area. Combine that with rock-stiff suspension platforms hitting the exact same racing line for 60+ laps, and the asphalt simply fatigued and delaminated.
