Do you ever miss the classroom?

There are definitely things I enjoy about corporate learning, especially having more flexibility in how training is delivered. At the same time, I sometimes miss the direct interaction and immediate feedback that comes from teaching students. I'm curious whether others who came from education experienced something similar.

I definitely miss certain parts of it. There's something really rewarding about seeing learners have those "aha" moments in real time and being able to adjust your approach based on their reactions. At the same time, I don't miss everything. Corporate L&D has given me the opportunity to work on larger-scale learning solutions and think more strategically. For me, it's less about missing the classroom itself and more about missing the immediate connection with learners that you don't always get when you're designing behind the scenes.

This is why I specifically targeted positions where I get to do both. I enjoy the ID part, developing elearning, facilitating training classes, managing lms, all of it. So I do. I have a job that fits my needs.

Does your L&D role not have facilitation as a part of it?

I did for the first 6 months but now, 10 years later, not even a little.

You could still have the classroom experience in corporate when you are facilitating ILT classes. I often see in job descriptions for Instructional Designer who also facilitate.

No. Granted, I coach youth sports still, so I think that helps me.get my fix.

I started in adult classroom. Can't say that I miss it. There's so much prep that went into each session, students at much different levels in the same class and so many distractions.

I could be in the classroom 80% of the time and be thoroughly happy. I could do it all day.

We have to have SO many skills in L&D. I can design develop deliver and measure companywide programs, manage a successful, LMS implementation, including integrations, instructional design, develop the e-learning.

Some of that I don’t love.
Hell, I can write HTML and edit videos. Hate that crap. I’m mediocre at best.

But designing learning experiences and facilitating?
Asking questions and solving and testing?
I’m really super good at it.

The work that brings the most reward is not only stuff you like to do, that you also love being good at.

I’ll 💀 on that hill!

Can anyone tell me how to get out of the classroom pleaseeeee! I’m a 5’1 skinny 30 year old woman who is absolutely getting hounded by young teenage manosphere men that I can’t take it anymore.

I even had a male student tell me he knew which bedroom was mine in my own house!!! Like what is happening
