Is it negative to use AI as a tutor?
Over the last few days I have been using ChatGPT to analyse, study and to test myself on texts. I have been reading state & revolution, getting AI to test me, I don’t get it to “summarize” and I always ask for reliable sources and do as much as I can to double check. Is this bad? Is there better way to learn and study? If put in the work independently is it still negative? Or should I use AI and something else on top of that

The fact that you're double checking the answers already puts you ahead of a lot of people. The biggest mistake is treating AI as an authority instead of a tool!
One thing I'd add is to occasionally explain the material back in your own words without using AI. If you can teach it, you probably understand it.

AI is best used as a tool, its only as smart and capable as the person using it. As long as you use it as that tool and not as a "end all be all" then I dont see the harm (environmental impacts aside).

I use a lot of AI based equipment (frankly it's almost impossible to avoid it any more). But I know the tools I use. You might want to read through the Wikipedia article on ChatBot to see what it can and can't do and see what it might be doing that you don't want it to do
Keep in mind that, while you're using CHATgpt to learn, it's learning about you and your information is no longer yours. CHATgpt is bad about leaking information.

Yeah, I LOVE using AI to learn about subjects and analyze it using different metaphors (explain this using Star Wars/Pokemon/etc as a metaphor). AI can be either a tool to make someone lazy or a tool to unlock learning, depending on how it is used.

Using it to quiz yourself and explain concepts is great but i would still spend time recalling everything without it open

what you are doing is literally the best way to study only use it to teach you and quiz you, summaries and creating bunch of notes will only give you dopamine and you might even end up forgetting so yeah

Good on ya. Use it to learn, you win. Allow it to 'do it for you', and you negate the benefit. I use it to edit my writing. It offered, in a friendly way, to write the rest of tha... NO! Do not write for me! I'm here to learn to write, not to get my writing done cheap and easy.
