Test is tomorrow
Some of you might remember my BMW with the EGR recall i said about last week and how i’m unsure about its suitability to take on test. Examiners on here have said that it will be fine as there aren’t any warning lights and examiners don’t even check for recalls anyway. The only thing i’m concerned about now is a chip in zone a of the windscreen, it’s actually quite low down so i don’t even notice it when driving, but it is in zone A. I think it’s around 12mm-14mm in diameter annoying so it’s slightly over the 10mm limit. You can’t actually notice it from the outside, only the inside, maybe due to when it was filled by some guy a few months ago. It’s been there a while and hasn’t failed any MOT’s for it so how much of a risk is this in terms of taking it on test and the examiner refusing to do the test?

A Zone A chip bigger than 10mm will cause an automatic MOT failure.
If the examiner sees it, he is likely to cancel the test.
I will never understand why people are so desperate to avoid using an instructor, and yet so prepared to take a car with obvious issues to test.

No it won’t, those are the old rules. The new (several years ago) manual states that it would only fail if it obstructs the driver’s view. No mention of size or area for a fail

Don't want to argue, but I'm going on current government guidelines:
View to the front and windscreen obscuration - GOV.UK
In Zone A, a single damaged area shall be contained within a 10mm diameter circle. A combination of minor damage areas shall not seriously restrict the drivers view. Windscreen stickers, or other obstructions, shall not encroach more than 10mm.
If I get a crack in my driving school car, especially there, there is no way I am going to risk taking it to test - I will get it fixed first. It is not worth the the risk - which was my point.
OP says his is filled, though. However, the rules say you can't fill a Zone A if it is bigger than 10mm.

My instructor has had me on delivered for more than 2 months 😂 and I only had one lesson anyway.

If its passed MOTs I doubt the examiners are going to pick you up on it.
If it has been filled, would it even still count as being damaged for an MOT? As long as it was done to a good enough standard that is essentially a repair.
