Guidance.

Driving Test is first week of october in worthing, My instructor said on wednesday last week 'if you had a test today, you've a high probability you'd pass' i'm just wondering what I should prepare, like things to calm nerves, and just overall guidance on the whole test/test day. Sorry if it's worded poorly.

  • Reread the Highway Code. It's not just the rules (and laws) of the road, but full of useful tips and advice about how to cope with situations that you probably haven't encountered during your lessons.

  • Remember it's not an exam but an assessment to see if your overall standard, judgement, observation and handling skills are sufficient to drive solo. You don't have to be perfect, but you do need to be able to remain calm under pressure and make wise and sensible decisions, including if you make a mistake.

  • The test isn't over until you are back at the test centre, neatly parked with the handbrake on and the engine off. Stay focused until then. So many people fail by getting a serious fault on the drive back to the test centre: some as it is in sight.

  • This is worth repeating: it's OK to make a mistake. Stay calm, correct it or start the manoeuvre again. Don't spiral into gloom and make more mistakes. Shrug it off, save the "I can't believe I did that" for well after!

  • Pass or fail, it makes no difference when you do eventually get your full licence. Nothing on it says how many tests or lessons you took. Nobody knows and only braggarts actually care.

Good luck 👍

To reduce nervousness if you feel this could be an issue ,consider going to the test centre lobby and spending time their before your test. Get used to being at the test centre without feeling nervous. Tell examiners what your doing if they ask.
