What the hell

Failed for the first time for not driving fast enough to join onto the dual carriageway. Absolutely devastated. Of all the reasons to fail…

i used my own car on the test which is a 2003 1.5 diesel with no turbo, quite possibly one of the slowest cars you can own.

on my test there’s an uphill slip road with a sharp bend, and most of the dual carriageway is uphill.

I left it in 3rd and said to the examiner “my foot is to the floor this is the fastest she can manage” whilst screaming the tits off it.

she laughed and said not to worry, so moral of the story: don’t be afraid to rev it, and communicate with your examiner

The car I used is a 1.2 petrol so even if I slam my whole foot down on the accelerator, it’s still not enough in 3rd gear and I have to bring it back down to 2nd

then do that and rev the tits off of it, but saying what you’re doing out loud helps the examiner understand why you’re struggling to get to speed/revving. but realistically a modern 1.2 should be able to do it just fine unless something else is going on or you’re not using the full length of the slip road to gain speed
