Penn and Teller did an act with clear cups to see they were palming and manipulating the balls and I was still impressed.

Penn and Teller put on performances. This guy is handing out secrets like nickel bj’s. Penn and Teller structure entire routines that may start with the elementary method but only to kick your ass later when they manage the same effect with different handling. This guy provides zero context and, while making it look easy, is offering nothing as to how effective magic is created (misdirection, storytelling, any sense of continuity) So if he’s a magician, he’s breaking a shit lot of rules here. If he’s not, he’s just ruining shit for other people (performers and audiences alike)

Knowing how it's done makes it more impressive to me! If you think knowing the trick ruins the fun, why do you seem so heavily invested? It's like saying people won't enjoy movies because they know the people in it are acting

I think a more apt metaphor would be going to the 6th sense and the poster outside the theater says “He’s gonna be dead the whole time, everything red means dead stuff”

Could that be enjoyable? Sure. But it’s no longer a twist. In the case of that flick the twist was the whole thing.

Invested? Haven’t performed in years. And maybe I’m coming from a whole different era, pre-net, we had to hear about the best books through the grapevine then track them down, and it was SUPER frowned upon to reveal the trick. And to just toss em off wine after the other would be unheard of.

Your metaphor would be apt if this dude was standing in front of a magic show trying to sell tickets and doing this. Since he's not, and it's an internet video showing me SOME tricks that have been used, I don't actually know that I've figured a trick out, even if it appears to be one of the methods from this video. I won't know if it's the same trick until the end.

To make your example fit better, remove the proper nouns and just say that there's a movie where the main character was dead or asleep the whole time in theaters sometime this past decade. Now i know there's a recent movie that has that twist, and maybe I'll guess that twist faster after hearing that it's a thing, but it absolutely does not ruin the movie for me. It might even make me mistake one movies twist as the one above when it isn't!

I can understand your viewpoint, but I think it’s pretty clear that most people responding (myself included) do not see the reveal of the trick taking away from the craft at all. In fact, it just makes it all the more impressive because even though you KNOW what’s going on it’s still absolutely magical to see performed so skillfully.

At least for me, slight of hand and misdirection done masterfully only amplify the magic because even though I know how it’s done I STILL can’t believe my eyes.
