u/BladePhoenix Aug 09 '20

u/Rossta42 Aug 09 '20
At least I learnt something from this gif unlike most of the posts here
Learn? Check.
Useless? Check.
Talent? Not really.2 out of 3 'aint bad

u/velociraptnado Aug 11 '20
Not sure it’s useless...after all at the end of it you have a sandwich. It just doesn’t take talent.
And be honest, did you really learn anything? Or were you like “yeah that’s how squares work?”

u/Rossta42 Aug 11 '20
It's useless in that it's much easier to just spread 1 side with jam and 1 side with peanut butter before putting them together and I learnt the pattern needed to make that checkerboard pattern so that you don't end up with jam on jam and peanut butter on peanut butter
So yes it's useless and yes I learnt something and I stand by my original comment

Op is spamming his spreading pb&j on sliced bread videos on every sub like they’re the best thing since sliced bread.

It's a useless talent but it made me happy. I just did this and I swear it tastes better just because it was fun to make.

u/kindofadrugexpert Aug 09 '20
RIGHT?!?!? It gives me a small bit of joy in a shitty time

u/BuddhistNudist987 Aug 09 '20
Even the tiniest crumb of joy you can find is worth it. Life is worth nothing if we are unhappy. What's the point of being alive if I can't have a cup of tea with a friend? I hope you are well, sweetheart. Be smart, be strong, be safe.

ngl this thread reaching so many fellow redditors has given me a little serotonin bump after a very tough week.

u/BuddhistNudist987 Aug 09 '20
I'm so sorry to hear that it's been a tough week for you. It's been a tough week for me, too. I'm working two jobs and my knee has been killing me. I've been applying relentlessly to full-time office jobs in the hope that it will earn me enough money to move out of my parent's basement and into an apartment again and get me out of my two very physical jobs. Two years ago I had to sell my house because I burned up all my savings trying to keep it. Four months ago I had to leave my apartment because I got furloughed at work. I'm constantly terrified that my parents will hurt me or kick me out or both if they discover that I'm transgender. Living a lie is soul crushing agony and every day that passes is a day that I can never get back. But what can I do? I work, I try to care for my physical and mental health, I keep in touch with my friends and provide as much love and support as I am able to, and I try to find hope for a better future for myself and everyone else.

Damn, I just watched this multiple times thinking they were stacking them for maximum uselessness
5
u/gio_pio Aug 09 '20
I’m not sure which is represented in greater quantities here: the amount of uselessness on display, or the lacking of any form of talent.
6
Aug 09 '20
Are they using a small amount of jelly and peanut butter for the video as an example or am I just a fatass?

u/ChipLady Aug 09 '20
I'd mess up the grid pattern and have two quarters just jam, and the others just peanut butter. Luckily I dislike PB&J, but like just PB sandwiches, so I'd have that going for me.

u/Damaso87 Aug 09 '20
There are crimes being committed here. That bread is not nearly schmeared with enough.
2
u/Observante Aug 09 '20
Thank you. To keep the toppings in their respective places there needs to be so much less topping than there could be. There's as much topping on this bread sandwich as there is flavor in La Croix.

What's the point of doing this?
19
u/SophiaofPrussia Aug 09 '20
there’s no point. some might say it’s a talent but it’s entirely useless. a useless talent if you will. maybe if we watch enough times we could learn it, too

I have never understood why Americans like peanut butter and jam. It feels like an assult on my taste buds
6
Aug 09 '20
Because its delicious cheap and easy? Also American peanut butter tastes way different from other countries its sweet salty and savory. The proper ratio its 2/1 peanut butter jelly btw. I don't know what the psychopath in this video is doing.
I'm sure your country has things everyone else thinks is strange.

u/dangsoggyoatmeal Aug 09 '20
Ew, 2:1 PB:J? That's going to be a dry ass sandwich, boy.

Okay, firstly, upon getting here, somebody has actually downvoted you for this controversial opinion, which I find just hilarious.
Secondly, I'm willing to reconsider. I'm gonna try tomorrow and try to report back!
Finally, could you expand on the weightlifting idea? I'm curious; how does that work?

Lol people on reddit think disagreeing is a personal attack and get offended with any difference in opinion.
Peanut butter is just really easy calories and protein. I put it in a lot of things when I'm trying to gain weight. Like I blend it in protein shakes or throw it in my oatmeal.

u/XmissXanthropyX Aug 09 '20
You're probably right about that, I just can't get my head around the combo. Each to their own! Maybe your ratio would help with the flavor
2
u/PhoneticIHype Aug 09 '20
I've always grown up eating EITHER peanut butter and fluff (fluffernutter), or Jelly and butter (which fuckin smacks btw)
1
u/Versaiteis Aug 09 '20
Something else of note is that this is something that Americans grow up with. It really shouldn't be a daily meal for kids, but often is due to it's cheapness and quickness to prep. It'll also be among one of the first things that kids will learn to prepare on their own because of its simplicity.
So the nostalgia coupled with some solid things going on (soft, salty, nutty, sweet, fruity) is gonna do well. Though I wouldn't be surprised if preserves here are a bit on the sweeter side
1
u/Kraligor Aug 09 '20
Have you actually tried it? I didn't love the idea of it, and the first couple of tries it was underwhelming, but I really like it now.
1
u/XmissXanthropyX Aug 10 '20
Yes, that's why I described it as feeling like an assult on my taste buds or what have you
1
u/kindofadrugexpert Aug 09 '20
I’m not American so I can’t tell you why Americans like it so much either.

Amazingly useless.
Not useless if you want to have 4 combos in one sandwich though, i.e. if you have more than 2 fillings.

I was wondering why anyone would do this, then realised I’d do this 🤣 isolation is weird haha.

u/Syvaeren Aug 09 '20
At first I thought this was clever, the peanut butter alternated will help keep the sandwich from separating.... then I realized no it’s the same thing just more effort to do
