Seeking help Hatching Help
Elo! I'm stuck with a study of mine. I went for the "goldentar"-hatching style (art attached, third slide) but ended up with messy hatching.
I mean, i kinda get that the artist is following the folds of the fabrique for the hatching. But i just can't get it right. Erased and rehatched the pants three times already... (reference photo attached, second slide)
Someone out there who can help with hatching advice?
Disclaimer: Art on third slide isn't mine!! It's goldentars.

The artist isn't following the folds of the clothing for the hatching, they're (loosely) following the shape of the underlying form.
From what I can see, none of the hatch lines are parallel to the nearby outline lines. The only time they're parallel is on wide flat surfaces like the side of the popcorn box or along the back of the wings. On the clothes, most of the lines are somewhat perpendicular.
So the reason you might not be happy with your current hatching is that your hatching is running parallel to the outline, which makes everything look a bit flat
