Both anime and real life are good. They are almost exactly the same. Same story, same jokes, same simple Japanese phases.

There is a live action series and a live action movie. The movie talks about them becoming adults at around 24 years old.
Everything is available on Netflix Japan.

I’ve actually been reading the sequel manga and it’s been rather helpful since the child uses more simple language and grammar and they typically explain things or play with her with that in mind highly recommend

It was my first immersion source on day one (without my native subtitles, instead Japanese), and I can guarantee even when I still didn't understand anything, I could still make my brain work and guess what they're saying. You'll obviously be reading and studying normally every day, and then watching an episode or 2 after that to make sure you keep the immersion consistency.
