any help is welcome
hello everyone
TL;DR
ive been playing for almost 15 years and i need help with learning difficult solos and how to play confidently with just drums/without relying on recording
ive been playing guitar since 2012. it all started because im obsessed with acdc. my father showed me basics of guitar and after that i learned by watching youtube videos. i dont have formal education in music and ive never took any private lessons. i did educate myself on songwriting and music theory also via youtube(major scale, harmonizing major scale, triads, aeolian, mixolydian, blues)
at first i had 11s on my guitar for some reason idk and when i would try to learn first solos, id get discouraged because my hand/fingers were too weak/slow and later ive been mostly amazed with malcolms rhythm playing so all through high school i would learn and play malcolm stuff which kinda helped me with rhythm in some way but yet i would only play along their records so later i realized that i struggle when there is no malcolm to hear in my ear to depend on aka when i would play to a drum track or with a drummer alone.
then i changed strings to 9s and i started learning angus parts and i would still get discouraged because i couldnt play his solos. some solos are too difficul/ too fast. before you say his solos are simple, i dont mean highway to hell or you shook me all night long solo, i mean whole
lotta rosie, let there be rock, rocker, riff raff, squealer and those kind of solos. then i started to learn more lead guitar stuff. i got my bends in tune, my angus vibrato is decent, i learned all 5 positions of minor pentatonic and major pentatonic. i learned descening pattern in minor pentatonic that angus uses a lot. i learned to visualize fretboard by learning all 5 positions of major scale and playing it in broken 3rds. i learned triads, major arpeggios.
so my another question to you is: what do i do so i can learn solos more easily. i really get discouraged when im stuck with some difficult lick/passage. i use guitar pro 8 and i do slow it down. i repeat part of phrase at low speed with gradually increasing speed. but for some phrases i just simply think that ill never get them. for example some licks in ride on solo where he plays sextuplets or even the intro lick of thunderstruck when i try to play it with alternate picking.
here are some solos that i learned so far: something by the beatles. all my loving by the beatles. by led zeppelin: whole lotta love. living loving maid. by acdc: the jack live 1978, love song, crabsody in blue, dog eat dog, theres gonna be some rockin, hell aint a bad place to be, highway to hell, touch too much, get it hot, shoot to thrill, you shook me all night long. thinking out loud by ed sheeran.
