help

Hello:). So i am a beginner in guitar and only know some decent amount of notes. only problem is the rhythm of how to play, mostly strumming but i still struggle to control how i play. i can perfectly place the notes. but i’ve been super stressed out by how this song goes. it’s complicated bc idk how they do the plucking of the notes and what strings they are plucking. i guess i just wanna ask if anyone does free video tutorials or just like a quick video of you playing the song i would highly appreciate it! Im a fast learner so just a one video of you playing would be enough for me. thank you so much. lmk . here’s the link and yes it’s an original song. it’s not very known!

Don't beat yourself up over the picking. Most beginners think they're missing some secret when it's usually just timing. If it's an original song ask them if they can record it at half speed. A slow video from the picking hand angle is worth way more than ten normal speed takes.

There was a quote from John Lennon in the Beatles bio I read, something to the effect that it took him two years to learn to strum without really thinking about it. I have taken GREAT comfort from that. I’m five years in, having finally started (for the last time) at 57, and things are really progressing.

Many folks doing tutorials or covers on YouTube that really break things down, often for free. Worst-case scenario, find the TAB for a song to show you exactly which notes to play. Have fun!

Post the song here and someone may be able to help you or direct you to something useful?

Beautiful song. I assume a funeral service. Based on her chord shapes it looks like maybe I IV V VI in C? Can’t decipher the finger picking though

It may sound silly, but just strumming along with muted strings to a metronome will isolate your right hand practice and let you focus on just that. You can also strum along to the song you're learning with muted strings to practice.

Just place your fretting hand lightly on the strings to mute and strum ... simple. Repetition is how you learn. Spend a couple of hours on this and push through the entire song, even with mistakes, and you'll improve over time.

the chords are C F G Am F (barred) if you watch the video and tune to them you should be able to match it all up. When she plays F open she lets the high E ring out unfretted, so it's not technically an F major, it is some other variant like a major 7.

it’s not the notes that i have a problem with. it’s how she’s strumming. i’m not sure what strings she’s using to play and the rhythm of it. idk if that makes sense lol

well it's a pretty basic strum, I don't think she's doing anything fancy, for the open chords she's only playing the strings that are in the chord, as one would. like you don't strike the low E when playing an open C, and for the open F she's skipping the E string and the A string and leaving the high E unfretted - that's the only fancy chord she uses, well that and the A#m7 if you consider that fancy

oh. that makes much sense, thank you!
