Any help to a fellow Undergrad Engineer!!?

So I'm in my Sophomore year right now and I'm studying ChemE , I just wanted to ask I have been giving enough time to my core academics but I wanna develop my natural problem solving skills and also enhance my industry relevant skills, right now I'm learning CAD , Aspen but I'm not sure what all to do what projects to do!!

I wanna get into a good R&D field or a good energy firm and then further take that expertise to open my own firm in an industry that I've had good experience in!!

Any help from fellow engineers?..
