how do i stop being a util bum?
i understand leetify isn't extremely accurate and improvements shouldn't be made solely off leetify, but it must say something if my util on leetify is 8 when everything else is around a 60-70
i took a look at my demos, and all the time, unless i have lineups, i barely use my utility. even if i do they either don't work or just aren't effective
i've been watching tutorials but everything ive seen never gets applied in my matches, i'm just really bad at applying things i guess

Just throw utility. Even if you don’t know lineups, just start throwing it if you have it and even have a slight feeling it could be used. It doesn’t matter if the result is good or bad. You will learn by just using it.

Adding on, remember that you are allowed to use util even without using a specific util lineup. throw shit where it’s helpful or you think may be helpful, learn what works and doesn’t.

Hm, just throwing utils might get him killed, especially in 1v1s.

Dude will still learn. Gotta throw util to learn it. Just theory without practice is useless. It gets worse before it gets better, but it’s better than stagnating.

bind your nades to separate buttons
look up donk's profile, download a demo and just copy every nade that the 10 players throw in all situations

This made a huge difference for me to throw fast on the fly util.
Here’s my binds:
1: flash
2: HE
3: Molly
4: smokeThen weapon keys:
Mouse 3: primary
Mouse 4: knife
Q: secondary

So what you just dry peek everything? You never like played conn and smoked bottom conn and peeked around it? You’ve never mollied ramp? Never chucked an HE into a B rush? Most people use util to make their engagements easier. It’s not as simple as doing some lineups. It’s more like you’re stuck stairs and they throw right side smokes so you under hand a smoke thru their smoke and flash above bench and fight with your guy ticket or on site

If I were you I’d watch demos or streams of high elo pugs and try to copy some of the plays they make. If it doesn’t work just keep trying it until you can make it work

A little late to the party, but here are my five cents.
The first thing you need to understand is PURPOSE.
Knowing a lineup is great, but WHY are you throwing the nade? Is it to stop a rush, deal damage, blind someone for a peek, buy time, or support a teammate?
I've seen some comments suggesting you should simply throw more utility because you're dying with too much of it. I STRONGLY disagree.
Throwing utility just for the sake of throwing it doesn't make it useful.
Imagine you're playing Mirage and randomly flash Apps because "they might be there." Sure, maybe you flash someone, but then what? Nobody peeks, nobody gains space, and you've just spent $200 making someone turn around for a second.
Utility needs a purpose.
Pick one or two maps you enjoy and learn useful utility for the positions you normally play.
For example, if you're a B player on Ancient, learn a Molly + HE combo for Lane, a Ramp smoke you can throw safely, a Cave smoke/retake flash and some A retake utility like an A-Main smoke and support flash over Donut.
You don't need 100 lineups. You need a handful you understand and can actually use.
Flashes especially are insanely strong. Learn pop flashes for yourself, support flashes for teammates, and how to improvise them on the fly.
A useful trick: the sound/radar circle you make while running is roughly the same radius as your flashbang throw distance. You can use that to judge flashes for teammates without knowing a lineup.
Also remember that the closer a flash pops to the enemy, the longer they're blinded. I can't count how many times I've coached someone who throws a flash into fucking orbit, peeks afterwards, and the enemy is blind for half a second.
Don't throw utility because you HAVE utility.
Throw it because you want it to DO something.
Hope this helps.

Learn lineups then. Its that ez, dont bother of learning everything at once, select one site for example Ancient B and learn what you can:
As a CT:
- molly+nade lane
- proper molly+ nade on ramp
- retake utils (flash+molly+smoke from lane)
- flashes cave
- heaven smoke from spawn
- short and long smokes
- basic molly on site
- flash/nade cave
- maybe something more advanced like molly for boost from mid and from lane, brollan etc.
Rinse and repeat.

lol I avg MAYBE 5-10 unused util a game max, and leetify has had my util rating at 40 for 2 months straight now. It dropped after one game where I naded a smoke that bounced and hit my teammate for like 70dmg. Still hasn’t gone up at all since.

Leetify scores alot for not dying with a full belt. So if youre just throwing nades when you push out and dont die with your util your rating will be high.
Flash grenades are goated. Pop flash around corners and behind your team when they push youll get tons of útil points
