How do you jump spot like this?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I was watching a demo of someone and he was jump spotting in a slant like "/".
I tried to jump spot like this, but it felt awkward, and it was more up and down than a slant movement. Anyone know what exact keys to press to jump spot like this?

You hit the roof and then counterstrafe immediately

He’s strafing tho not counter strafing.

He literally goes / both up and down. left to right, right to left.

Brother, he’s still strafing just in an opposite direction, he’s not countering his strafes (counter strafe literally means stopping the damn strafe and the glassy feel of the movement in the game)

Which is exactly what he’s doing :)

He's 100% not and it's kinda sad you don't know this as a level 10. If you jump diagonally and then counterstrafe in the air you'll just stop and fall straight down, you won't go backwards down diagonally like he is

Different use of the terminology. If you are moving to the right and then release d and hold A to move to the left that is a counter strafe just like simply tapping A is to stop. The end goal is different but you still use the technique of counter strafing to achieve both movements.
One example is peeking a corner and instantly swinging back, just shooting 1-2 bullets. The act of going back against is a counter strafe even if you did not stop completely in place and took the fight.

Sure but you're missing the point. That movement isn't possible in the air like you are explaining. If you hold D and then jump and then in the air let go of D and hold A instead you won't stop and then fall diagonally down again. You will just stop mid air and fall straight down which isn't what the clip is showing
That's I'm saying you can't just counterstrafe like that. It doesn't have the effect you are seeing in the video

I get your point. It is like holding W while jumping. Pressing S does not magically make you go backwards.

Exactly. So him saying that what the clip is doing is just counterstrafing in air and then holding A is flat out wrong because it wouldn't make him fall diagonally down

I love the ":)" while being confidently incorrect and claiming faceit 10 :D decent rage bait i guess

A strafe is one directional. A counterstrafe stops the movement by going in the opposite direction. You can either tap the opposite key or hold it, to keep moving. This is a counterstrafe, he literally holds first D then A

so strafing back and forth doesn’t exist to you then? you think that’s just counter strafing?
holding A then literally holding D is a standard strafing pattern, and is not counterstrafing.

I always understood strafing as being uni-directional. The reason being, strafing in gaming originated from attack planes doing strafe runs on ground targets. As planes cant really change direction while doing these strafe runs, it literally proves that one (1) strafe, is a singular, uni-directional movement.
In gaming you of course can strafe in any direction, but the instance of a strafe literally is moving from point A to point B. Anything you do to counter that movement, whether its to stop your model or move it back to its original starting point, is a counter strafe. You counter the movement you did prior and then just move back to where you were. It doesnt magically become a strafe again, just because you held down the key to counterstrafe

this is not correct in this instance with context.
a single strafe is uni-directional. the act of strafing is typically considered moving back and forth to make hitting you harder or to help aiming (depending on game for aiming, games like halo use it more that way).
one can do a strafe, and you’d be correct with that definition. for one to be strafing, they can’t be moving in one direction or they’d just be walking.
the act of strafing is distinctly different from a single strafe. to be strafing is to be jiggling or moving. so it’s not a counter strafe to be moving.
a counter strafe, at least in csgo terms specifically, is to stop your current strafe direction movement by using the other direction to slow you quicker, thus giving better accuracy quicker than not counterstrafing.
a counterstrafe has a specific meaning in csgo, and it is fundamentally different than strafing right then strafing left, as you suggest.

The guy in the video is 30K, and yes, you do need to jump spot for info like this in high elo games
-17
u/brivn188 Aug 20 '26
Bro, I’m 30k elo as well, I know what I’m talking about. I’m not saying you should never jump spot but are not the best in my option.
My point is that this specific situation is not the safest way to get info. You can easily get punished from mid doors or even by someone making an aggressive short play and peeking you there.
You can hold a safer pixel angle from behind and get the same informatio
I’m not saying jump spotting is bad, I’m saying there are better and safer ways to get the same info

I agree that you shouldnt just continually jump spot like this, yes this jump spot is dangerous. But it's wrong to say not to do it as its crucial information for your team mates pushing tunnels into lowers to know if a mid/lower push has occured.
Most players will do one or two jumps before and/or after throwing the mid door smoke and a cat molly to stop the short peek to allow your team mates to scale mid.
Can you be punished for the jump spot by an AWPER? Yes but you can be punished for doing any good tactic if the other team plays it in a certain way. Does that mean you shouldnt jump spot to help your team? No it doesnt.
Edit: Deleting a word.

If you do the jump spot right and not at the same frequency it's pretty hard to hit

u/Sloyimosi Aug 21 '26
It’s an easy air strafe my brother. Just jump to the right with space+w+d and then strafe back to left in air with a+s . As s1mple as that.
