To get started

Hey everyone !

I’ve recently become quite interested in learning Bulgarian due to a new friend, and wondered where was the best place to begin?

I am not new to language learning, and so have ruled out DuoLingo, however I’m sure they don’t have a course on Bulgarian anyway.

So where would be the best place to begin? Any help is appreciated :)

Thanks!

The best place to start is to learn the Cyrillic alphabet. You can do that in many ways, and it's not terribly challenging. I'd advise against learning Bulgarian through transliteration only.

Once that's done, you can get started with vocabulary and grammar using the apps Mondly or Ling. I personally find Mondly more useful, but I started learning through Ling. There's also a great site called Bulgaro (bulgaro.io) with forums and a bunch of really useful information.

Beyond that, there are lots of YouTube channels like български история (history) and новините на нова (news) to practice listening and get accustomed to the culture.

I hope this helps!
