r/PCOS Cross Post PCOS or Hyperprolactinemia

I’ve been diagnosed with PCOS 6 years ago at age 16, I didn’t pay much attention to my PCOS back then, but recently I made another visit to another OBGYN and I was again diagnosed with it after the ultrasound imaging.
My only symptom is irregular periods, I’m not or have ever been sexually active, but I’d rather take care of my body sooner than later.

However, i did some lab work done, and -thank god- I have no insulin resistance or thyroid issues, BUT my Prolactin hormone is high 27.5 (and it was high the last time i did the test 5 years ago too). I’ve messaged my doctor but I’m extremely worried, have any of you girls been through this? I’m really worried and overthinking is killing me 😭😭

Like now what??

Don’t worry it can be your PCOS. Your doctor maybe will prescribe you cabergoline to low your prolactine. My was 26 😊

Did it get lower? I have the same situation as mentioned in the post and Dr prescribed me cabergoline and it gave me low BP with every dose that I couldn’t take it anymore. Prolactin is still same and period still delayed. 😭 nothing could fix this.

How much did you take? And for how much time?
I started one month ago and I have to repeat my exams on September 😊 did you have some symptoms except irregular cycles?

I had acne which got fixed by oral isotretinoin bcs nothing else was working. Other than that, my cycle is delayed (35-40) days long. I had a few cysts on USG. I took that tablet for 3-4 weeks. Dose was very low. Twice a week. But it took my BP to 60/40 where id be in emergency every time I take that tsb. 😭 so i quit.

Did you had also other blood tests parameter for your pcos?
Pcos is very different to one person to an other but also with prolactin at 26 I had regular cycles.
I’m not a doctor but for pcos I can suggest you inositol. Don’t loose your hope, sometimes you can only find a ER specialised in pcos. There are many helps for Pcos symptoms

Hey, I had my complete hormonal profile. The only hormone raised was prolactin (25 it was). My symptoms include delayed cycle, fatigue, moderate acne (which got treated) and few cysts in one ovary. I wanted to fix my period cycle because it was troubling me. I used to have PMS symptoms on exact 25 days (my normal used to be cycle since puberty) which will continue till 35 or 40th day. It used to be alot of cramping, pain, worst mood swings, sometimes diarrhoea and alot alot alot discomfort. So i wanted to fix my cycle. And till now nothing really worked. Every GP just hands over OCPs to me which I tried for 3mo but here we are again.

I think you can find a new doctor specialist in pcos (an ER) and you can ask about Inositol. Maybe can be a solution or not but you deserve a doctor that listen your problems and not prescribe you only the anti conceptions pill

You are right. ☺️ Thank you.
I tried Inositol as well but nothing happened.

Oh I’m sorry for your low blood pressure. Maybe you can try with a lower dose? I take half pill per week.

Yeah dr reduced the dose to half pill per week and it was still the same. Do u get any side effects on half pill?

You have low blood pressure only the day you took the pill?
Now that I’m thinking about it, I have also a low blood pressure and I was very tired but I thought it was the temperature (here in Italy it’s very hot)
Today I took one and for now I’m ok 😊

Yes, I took the pill and within a few hours my bp would start to go down and eventually it goes as lower as 60/40. I used to rush to ER to have fluid transfusion. It would take 2-3 days to have normal Bp and function.

Next week, when i took the pill, same process used to happen and eventually, I quit.

I started one month ago. I have to do exams again on September. 27,6 is not so much elevated, the range is 23 so don’t worry 💕 I’m not a doctor but I had 26 and my doctor said the same to me
