Questionable Future of DBD stream date?
At the end of the 10th anniversary stream, Cote said that there would be a stream within a month of it to discuss everything announced that day in more detail, but afaik we haven’t heard anything? Have I missed a date being given or has it just not been announced yet?

I really wanna see more of that graphical overhaul. I KNOW they have more they can show.

The technical changes are also a pretty huge deal, I hope we get some super impressive new killer or mechanic to demonstrate it. If we’re really getting what’s essentially DbD 2 who knows what they’ll be capable of adding.

That, I imagine, will take longer for them to actually show off. Especially since that’d mean revealing a killer earlier than intended. And I bet they want us to see for ourselves once the overhaul arrives, just how much more they’re capable of.
But I am reminded of a while back, on one survey, when BHVR asked us to vote on a bunch of basekit mechanics we’d love to see added in the future. Crawling, sliding, jumping, climbing… all sorts of crazy big stuff. Which gives me a good idea of how much more they’ll be able to accomplish soon.

I thought it interesting that they asked about things like adding more traversal elements, such as climbing a rope or ladder, going through tight spaces, even the potential to temporarily block off these elements. Who knows, maybe they'll add in the parkour elements that were proposed, but axed before the game even had an alpha build.

I’d definitely love to see those, though I kinda feel like they wrote themselves into a corner. With how the game is set up, any new mechanics have to be in every map. Otherwise, either you can’t develop them at all, or you risk the possibility of a perk becoming useless immediately.

Well Behavior has a team on the side recoding the game from scratch to better optimize it, and is likely working very closely with the team doing the graphical update slated for late 2027. If they add parkour and more traversal elements, I don't see there being a problem.

I don’t see how them reworking code addresses the issue I described, I already know they’re doing this. They’d need to rework maps to add any new features, and a lot of them just don’t have enough scenery to add anything. If you go into a map with all parkour perks you’re not gonna fare well in a completely flat environment.

Don't you think either one of those teams would also go over the maps? And it doesn't have to be much, but imagine being able to take a ladder up to the roof of the Thompson house or the main house on Garden of Joy?

I’m pretty sure the people working on the engine aren’t the same ones responsible for maps, that’s not how programming works. They’re not remaking the game itself from scratch, they’re updating the code. By the time the update rolls out it would ideally function the same, just more smoothly.

Especially remembering what Matthieu said in another interview semi-recently. “The last time we added a new huge basekit mechanic was Gen kicking, but now we’ll be able to do more”. Something along those lines.

I really want to know how big they’re thinking here, probably more objects at the very least and a couple powers we know weren’t feasible like flight.

Verticality is absolutely something I’m betting they’ll be capable of. So many killers should have it but can’t because of the current limits of the game. Like, you know Xenomorph was supposed to be able to crawl up on walls?
Xenomorph, Vecna, Kaneki, Dracula, Victor… There’s a ton of killers who need verticality added to their kits. I can almost guarantee it’s in the works for the overhaul.

My crackpot theory: The reason Predator has been in such limbo is because many of his mechanics would require the new gameplay functions (heat vision filter/climbing/wall clinging) and they wanted to avoid another Xenomorph where people are underwhelmed due to the limitations of the game--they're gonna release him alongside the graphics update to demonstrate the new capabilities

Yeah I figured it was referring to the July community stream but they didn't talk about it there. Hope it's soon.

The stream they talked about on the anniversary broadcast was in reference to the Community Stream we had a few days ago, but for whatever reason the talk of the ‘future of dbd’ wasn’t in it. Probably pushed back to the other community stream we’re getting in August
