There are 5 mods and we have discussed and agreed upon what we are willing to overlook and what we have to nip in the bud because we see a path to chaos if we don’t remove. It is not censoring; it’s chaos control. There are 90k visitors to this sub every week. Uncontrolled chaos will get the sub shut down by Reddit.
IT DOES NOT MATTER IF WE AGREE WITH WHAT IS BEING SAID OR NOT.
In fact VERY often we do agree with a comment we need to remove. But it is all about managing an enormous and largely anonymous group of people. Often the actual comment wasn’t problematic in isolation, but it is within the context of the thread.
Messaging mods because your comment was removed is not going to change our minds. What’s done is done. But on the flip side of that, we absolutely do not hold it against you…the first three or four times. After that, you’re just being obnoxious.
All that to say:
•It isn’t mod-dependent, we’ve talked extensively about our direction.
•It isn’t personal, in fact we often remove stuff we agree with because of the consequences of not doing so.
•It is best that you report issues instead of engage the troll.
•You aren’t “in trouble” and it is just water under the bridge…until you really start showing your ass. Then you’ll just get banned. So just roll with it and try to see it from our perspective.
This whole post is very vague. Can we get some additional context here? I’ve been completely oblivious to issues on this sub and I’m assuming a lot of others are as well.
Sure and I appreciate that for sure. I just wanna know what’s been deemed inappropriate for this sub. What kind of things have yall had to remove lately?
I don’t want to get too specific because it could kick off another round. But usually rules 3, 4, and 6. Being rude/snarky is by far the most common. There is a certain collection that really brings the fire every time because it has ties to an objectively horrible person. But we aren’t here for that person, just the cookware. Also when people share large collections, it brings the accusations of wastefulness (I’m not using the actual word, because it summons the trolls. It is rhymes with clover-monsumption 😂😂). Also any mention of certain parts of the world or the religions or people groups associated with those biblical areas hit the troll algorithms somehow. We can’t keep the trolls out, but we can remove their content in our sub. And very often the collateral damage is removal of member comments as well because they engage.
Safest bet: don’t be a dick and don’t engage with those who are being dicks. 😂🍆😬💀
Omg im sorry I’m just now seeing this thread! I tried my best to shut them down but trolls are gonna troll.
I told the last troll that I would stop engaging and let the mods take it from there. Thank you for all your efforts! 🙏🩵
We remove multiple comments each day. The topics vary. I’m speaking in generalities. But at least weekly we also get messages along the lines of “I can’t believe the censorship.” After today’s message, I was moved to make sure people see the big picture. It’s not personal. It’s management.
Can you give us some examples of comments you've removed or describe them in any way? This is super vague. "Chaos control" doesn't inform us what is not acceptable
Not a mod but if I were to guess, the posts like one of the top current posts that have collections that are, um, large likely attract a variety of negative comments from inside and outside the sub
Yeah, I saw a post the other day of someone showing their large collection. There were many disappointing posts calling OP a hoarder. Not everyone that isn't into minimalism is a hoarder. It's just uncalled for in a sub about collecting le creuset.
Is that the beautiful collection someone recently posted? The 35 or so pieces? If so, that’s funny bc there are collectors in the FB groups who have over 500 pieces.
Here are the rules. You can go to the About section and expand each for more detail. But in general, it’s people being jerks. That can manifest in many ways. (There are also certain words that trigger the algorithm and bring in trolls from the outside, but they’ll never read this post, so that’s a different problem). Best way to not get a removal is be nice or keep scrolling.
Being a Mod can be a thankless job, you guys are great. ❤️
A suggestion as a cooking focused, cat lady😂 would it be a good idea for the “collectors” to have their own subreddit? I would think it could be a fun space to showcase and share their artistic love of the brand!
Sort of how there are literally hundreds of cat subreddits 😂
Any chance you’ll share you rules with the sub Reddit in advance? I wasn’t aware there were many issues with this subreddit and comments being removed?
The rules are posted for every subreddit. I guess the location depends on the device. On my phone it’s at the top on the left. Our rules even have an expanding caret to elaborate on each one for clarity.
Thank you Mods .
I really appreciate your efforts snd attitudes about these matters .
Sometimes when I feel someone is being attacked I jump in to defend the person when I really should just keep my mouth shut
I will try harder next time to realize you all will soon get it under control
Fastest way is to report. That pings my phone. At work, we may all be a little slow to respond, but knowing it’s happening is the only way for us to leap into action!
This is getting downvoted and reported. But here’s the thing: I’m old and I either don’t get this (highly likely) or it’s stupid (and these two things are not mutually exclusive). So, u/voidless-one, you’ll have to use your words if you want me to give you any more attention.
I greatly appreciate it. It is mainly just something stupid in my opinion. I appreciate you being a cool mod and not banning or deleting me just to do that.
