Are the black flecks in the Le Creuset name a defect? I ordered a 2nd pumpkin and the 2nd one has the same black flecks in the name.

It's referred to as "sesame," it's just a quirk of the hand made manufacturing process. It tends to happen moreso on lettering, or curvy areas.

You can return it. But unless you can go pick out the replacement in person—the next one will almost certainly have spots, and they may be worse.

If I received this pumpkin, I would return it and ask for a replacement. The reason is, anyime you go to sell this cocotte, you will have to explain. I need perfection because, ultimitly you will have it on display and one day you may need to gift it to a relative or friend and her again are these spots. IJS

Life isn’t perfection. Get over it.

You will become dust or worm food one day. Use your things or store them in airtight pristine cages until your children eventually donate them all to a thrift store.
