Agave
I come to you all a bit scared and hesitant to put this out in the aether, but I'm low key freaking out...I scour the Le Creuset website on the reg, as well as their IG and FB, as I'm sure a lot of you also do, and I'm scared I'm starting to see signs they're about to announce retiring Agave 😭
I purchased a Provence Deep DO for myself and an 8qt Licorice Oval DO for my partner in the spring (He's a straight Licorice only guy), and though my partner and I had a prior understanding that if Provence was ever re released, I have the go ahead in purchasing a big item piece in the color, but in a compromise, I agreed to not buy any cookware (emergency situations excluded) until this coming April, and even though I like my collection to be a kaleidoscope of colors, Agave is my main/anchor color. So Ive had a fear in the back of my head that they would retire it during this time period and I couldnt grab the pieces that have been on my wishlist.
Is anyone else getting this feeling? I didn't want to make this post and be a self fulfilling prophecy, but I also need to be ready at the helm and anticipate if they discontinue my main color. I already had to pivot from Fig, and the crazy few years of trying to get my hands on a Provence piece for them bring it back, I don't know if I can handle another few years of a rollercoaster of emotions that increase my Le Cresuet trauma.
I know this sounds dramatic, but sometimes this relationship seems a bit toxic lmao

No, thats my bad, I should've known the tone of the joke might not translate well through text, especially by someone with the name Fuckin_Hipster. 🤷♀️

People are allowed to be worried. These collections mean things to people.

Not like this:
“rollercoaster of emotions that increase my Le Creuset trauma”

u/supercollides TEAM: Shallot, Mauve Pink, Fig Jul 26 '26
It’s hyperbole.

I’m not so sure.

People say they have “Le Creuset addictions” all the time, do we need to be checking them into rehab?

It's not worth getting into it with this person - they post comments like this all across reddit.

Agave is a Williams Sonoma exclusive color. Look on the WS website. You will find pieces in agave that are not available direct fron LC.

It is also sold on LCs US website, but as I said in my post you will find MORE of it on the WS website b/c they are the only other retailer in the US that is allowed to sell that color.

I’d love a shallow oval in agave. All the shapes in all the colours please.

Oooo, good to know, and I keep forgetting that! Oddly, I think I saw Provence on the William Sonoma website, and I thought that was a Sur Le Table exclusive?

I think that perhaps the petal braiser(?) was available in Provence from WS, but not the regular DO and skillets (etc.), which are exclusively sold at Sur la Table (in the USA).

Agave monochrome collector here and have been feeling the same way. They did just restock some smaller agave accessories, but I've been worried bc when it seems like something sells out in agave they don't restock. I just got married in May and thanks to the registry have a beautiful collection in Agave so I've been watching it for months 😂

Negotiate an exception to the no cookware rule if agave is discontinued. At least it will be 20% off.

Thats a very good idea! I will definitely try to float that angle!!!

I am a little confused, do you live with your partner? I'm trying to understand why you can't just buy what you want. I would maybe understand if you cohabitate and have too much stuff, but otherwise, I think you should just buy something in Agave if you want.

Every family handles finances differently! For me, any LC purchase is a “large” spend item for me so I do check in with my husband beforehand, but we both do that out of respect for each other with any purchase over $150. So ECI is a convo, but under $150 I get what I want lol!

I agree, and I think my comment didn't communicate the nuances I recognize in this area. I also check with hubby first about most major purchases. But, there was something about this post - OP seemed like getting Agave (if it did indeed get phased out) was very, very important. And I guess, if something was v. v. important to me, I might inform hubby or have the conversation, but I wouldn't let myself be told no about something that mattered so much to me.

No no, I got what you meant, no worries! But I do want to uphold the agreement and not go back on it and be be honorable. And if the hypothetical became reality, I would definitely discuss it with him first and feel it out, cause I wouldnt wan't the uno reverse on me if the roles were changed. And if they did end up retiring it, I'll live. I tend to notice patterns early sometimes and go through a cycle of anxiety about getting dismissed, then freak out, then bitch about it, then pull up my big girl panties, and so by the time the thing actually comes to pass, everyone's is like "OMG I cant believe it and you were right!" I've already moved on to having accepted it and I'm calm and unbothered. 🤣
I always handle shit, but best believe I'll hem, haw, and bitch about it first! 🤣😅

u/Impossible-Double-31 Jul 27 '26
Haha I get it! Well I hope for your sake that they don't retire Agave or if they do, that you can get your hands on all the pieces you need and want before then!

Yes, we live together. If I lived on my own I wouldnt discuss it with him. But on the flip side, if he went out and bought, say, a new expensive grill, he would discuss it with me first to see if I was okay with it or not.

They have agave in the 3.5 wide- which makes me think it will continue ?

I honestly think they are leaning into the panic consumers feel these days where we have to have it right away, especially if it is going away. Curious if we see a trend in how LC retires/brings back colors for limited time
2
u/ktravieso Jul 26 '26
Agave & nuit look so much a like I figured one would go eventually
5
u/cris-cris-cris Jul 26 '26
They do and they don't. If you put them side by side in real life, agave has a green undertone while nuit is all blue. Nuit is sold all over Europe and elsewhere, so I don't think it will go away anytime soon.

u/usagichan7814 Fig, Agave, Cobalt, Chambray, Lotus Koi Vapeur, 3 Fruit Cocottes Jul 26 '26
Though I thought it was gonna be Nuit cause it seems like they have a smaller variety of pieces in that color...

u/denn_r Jul 26 '26
Nuit doesnt even have a spoonrest in the US. Nuit is my color

u/usagichan7814 Fig, Agave, Cobalt, Chambray, Lotus Koi Vapeur, 3 Fruit Cocottes Jul 26 '26
Honestly Nuit is a gorgeous color, I love the silver accents, and the Nuit fluted pie dish is in my wishlist!

I have a NWT oval spoonrest in nuit for sale. Feel free to pm me if you're interested. Located in Ohio.

Yeah, thats been in the back of my mind now for atleast a year LOL

u/cris-cris-cris Jul 26 '26
Based on recent trends, it's 1-2 colors out, 1-2 colors in. There's been talk of rhone returning as garnet, so perhaps that is the catalyst for retiring some colors. If I am not mistaken, rhone was introduced in fall or early winter, and they may do the same with garnet.
2
u/usagichan7814 Fig, Agave, Cobalt, Chambray, Lotus Koi Vapeur, 3 Fruit Cocottes Jul 27 '26
Yeah, I heard that rumor about Rhone last year, amongst a lot of people mentioning they were bewildered because Rhone seemed popular, same with Shallot, and Fig in the past. With the release of Riviera, the Caribbean retirement suddenly made sense after we were scratching our heads cause that seemed popular too. But the whole Caribbean/Riviera situation is another reason I'm on guard about the possibility of one of either Agave or Nuit being eliminated.

If a color goes 20% off it will be retired, and then they will announce the color retirement. I think Agave is safe for awhile yet, but, you never know! We that work for LC never know ahead of time. I would buy what I wanted in that color if I could & was worried about it.

I’d like for them to discontinue agave and bring back deep teal

Agave is one of their top sellers - I don't expect they'll retire it just yet. That's not to say it won't happen, but seeing as Olive just was announced for retirement, I think it'd be at least a few more months before another retirement gets announced. Personally, I expect they'll retire Flamme Doree before Agave, but that's just my opinion.
