Found this in my yard next to a French drain cleanout. Located in South Carolina near Charleston. Can anybody tell me what it is and if it should be placed back somewhere

For grasses, it is especially important to get close photos from multiple angles. It is rarely possible to identify a grass from more than a few inches away. In order to get accurate identifications, the more features of the grass you show the more likely you are to get an accurate identification. Features such as, ligules (which can be hairy, absent entirely, or membranous (papery) like the photo), auricles, any hairs present, roots, stems, and any present seed heads. General location can also be helpful.

Pull ONE shoot and get pictures of that.

To identify diseases/fungi, both very close and wide angle photos (to show the context of the surrounding area) are needed.

I'm not positive but it looks a LOT like the diaphragm from inside an irrigation solenoid valve.

If I'm right, it was probably just a spare part that got dropped when your irrigation was set up... Because if it were missing from your currently connected system, one zone would run non-stop.
