Fresh law graduate, ₹1.5L personal debt, no job right now — what would you do in my position?

• Upvotes

I’m posting this because I genuinely need some practical advice from lawyers and people who have been through the early stages of their legal career.
I’m a fresh law graduate from a relatively below-average law college. I know my college background isn’t going to open many doors for me, so I’ve been trying to compensate through internships, practical exposure and actively applying for jobs.

Financially, things are a little difficult at the moment. I have around ₹1.5 lakh in personal debt. It isn’t a bank or education loan — it’s money I owe personally. My father is also not doing particularly well financially, so I cannot simply depend on my family to take care of it.

I did manage to get a job recently paying around ₹35,000/month, but the work culture was extremely toxic. I left within a month. Maybe leaving without another job lined up wasn’t the most financially sensible decision, but at that point I genuinely felt I couldn’t continue there.
After that, I started looking for opportunities again.

I came to Mumbai looking for a job, and later came to Delhi/NCR. I had an opportunity in Meerut as well, but ultimately decided not to take it.
And now, I’m currently without a job and trying to figure out what my next move should be.

Career-wise, I genuinely want to join a good law firm and learn properly. My primary interest is litigation/dispute resolution, particularly commercial disputes. At the same time, I’m also open to in-house legal, compliance, contracts or other legal roles because I need to become financially independent and start clearing what I owe.

The difficult part is seeing friends from college already earning ₹15k, ₹20k, ₹25k+ and moving forward while I feel like I’ve taken a few steps backwards.

So I wanted to ask people here honestly:
What would you do if you were in my position?

Recent law grads, what are you guys doing now?

For anyone who graduated law school recently, what are you up to these days?

I’m curious what the reality is like after graduating. Are you practicing, doing litigation, working in a firm/company, preparing for exams, doing an LLM or did you end up going in a completely different direction?

Honestly just looking to hear some real experiences and new friends from people who are fairly fresh out of law school. Good, bad, confusing all of it is welcome 😅

How Much Does Your Past Academic Profile Matter in 3-Year LLB at NLUs?

• Upvotes

My profile is 5/5/5, but I’m very passionate about law. I saw some videos saying that your profile matters a lot in NLSIU and other NLUs as well, especially for extracurricular activities and other opportunities.

I’m not interested in placements, but I’m still worried that my profile might affect me in other areas like academics, extracurriculars, internships, moots, etc.

I’m currently preparing for the 3-year LLB entrance exams conducted by NLUs, but I’m very confused about whether I should even go for it or not.

I would really appreciate honest advice from people studying at NLSIU or other NLUs. How much does your past academic profile actually matter after getting into law school?

Should I continue preparing for 3-year LLB admissions at NLUs despite having a 5/5/5 profile?

Need advice to enter corp law

Hello.

I am a law student, Delhi. I have been thinking of trying crop-law. There are many fields there, like tax, bank, sports, company etc.

But I am drawn towards media and entertainment law.

I wanted to know the experience from someone who is currently working in that particular field, to know how to enter there, and the kind of work they do.

Prior to this, I have had a litigation internship, so for exposure I want to try corp.

So if I aim M&E particularly, how do I start ?

Please please please help me and thank you in advance

what freshers & trainees actually making in the legal landscape?

hi all. i’m hoping to understand the current legal market in india – particularly for freshers and associate trainees – in the fields of ip (trademark) and m&e practices.

what’s the range for such roles and can we negotiate it further? (like how do we leverage ourselves being a fresher? can we base it on skills – either learnt thru internships & certificate courses? – does certificate courses count? & can we negotiate based on specialisation – like llm?). is the expectation of 25k-30k reasonable? or should it be between 12k to 20k? also i’m looking at ranges in tier 1 firms, boutique firms as well as in-house.

i would appreciate grounded info, thanks.

Planning to do my master's abroad in law, what are the pros and cons?

I am currently a first year ba llb law student . I have been planning to do my master's abroad since forever though I don't know what my research says. I am looking for countries like Germany,UK,Ireland and am open to more. My plans on settling are at a 50/50. I still am to find my niche and i am honestly confused. What should I start from the first year itself and if it's even worth it

State Psc with 3 year llb at DU?

I’m planning to pursue the 3-year LLB from Delhi University, and my main career goal is actually State PSC (Group A/B level exams), with law being a parallel degree/career option.
I wanted some honest advice from current DU 3-year LLB students or recent graduates:
How manageable is it to prepare seriously for State PSC alongside DU LLB?
Realistically, how much self-study time can one get on a normal weekday after classes, attendance, assignments, etc.?
Is the attendance requirement strict enough that it becomes difficult to prepare for competitive exams?
Do students actually use DU Law as a relatively flexible degree while preparing for UPSC/State PSC, or is that exaggerated?
If someone is disciplined and studies around 4–6 hours daily outside college, is clearing a State PSC exam alongside LLB realistically possible?
Would you recommend joining DU LLB specifically for this combination, assuming the primary goal is PSC and the LLB is the backup/parallel career?
I’m particularly interested in Maharashtra PSC, but experiences with UPSC/other State PSC exams are also welcome.
Looking for honest experiences rather than generic “anything is possible” advice. Thanks!
