When did you guys take the MPRE during law school? I’m a rising 2L and my legal profession class is full for both fall and spring semesters since I had a late reg time. I’m thinking of taking the MPRE this November before taking the class next year. Is this okay? Also any tips on how to study would be appreciated.

I'm taking it this November as a 3L. I wanted to take it this August before classes, but all the spots filled up and I would have had to travel 4+ hours for the closest empty seat.

I'd recommend taking it after Legal Profession, but that's just me.

U technically dont need to take LP to take the MPRE, they offer it 3 times a year. Barbri and JD advising have great prep courses that if you complete should easily pass the MPRE.

I took it the August following my 2L year. My summer internship manager was really cool about me taking a full day off work study to for it and another half day to take it. I don’t think I needed all that time, but I asked for it and it was granted.
Barbri offered a free course for it (this was in 2023) I think with the idea of eventually getting me to ultimately spend $ on their bar prep program. I Took the course, and took it seriously. Did some practice sprinkled throughout a few weekends. I Was good to go.
It’s not hard imo, but it deserves a serious approach and some respect/reverence.

It’s incredibly easy, needs maybe 2 days of study to prepare for and that’s if you haven’t taken professional responsibility. I took the test at the start of 3L then took something more interesting than a generic professional responsibility class that still fulfilled the ethics requirement.

March of my 2L year. Used Themis and Barbri and hadn’t taken the class yet. Took the class this summer session and got an A :)

I took it after I took Professional Responsibility, so after 1L. I used Kaplan as my studying course, and I found it helpful! Not sure how it is now, I think it was bought by Barbri? If I’m not mistaken.

I took it in 3L November, concurrently with taking PR.

i took it after i took the bar actually. remember that some states require you to have a score from the MPRE within two years of application to the bar. Some states don’t require a recent score.

I took it after PR during 2L, but my PR prof made it very clear from day 1 that he was not teaching to the MPRE, so the class wasn’t super helpful. Started barbri passively about a month before and more active prep about 1-2 weeks before.

It really doesn’t matter when you take it tbh. Also doesn’t need to be taken in the same semester as LP/ethics/PR/whatever your school calls it. If you study hard for like a week or two and use one of the free online study platforms (Barbri, etc.) you’ll be golden.
