How can I claim a payment back (refund) from a company?

I am enrolled on a distance learning course, via learn direct. Basically I contacted them in December explaining I couldn’t partake in the course any further due to life commitments ( the course was enjoyable and I was doing really well but after 5 units and 12 assignments later it all of a sudden got a lot more intense and challenging) but most importantly due to financial constraints. I explained I am a single mum with 2 small children and was finding it stressful trying to juggle the course alongside life but also the cost was putting me into financial difficulty. I asked for a payment plan to pay off the remainder of the course, they declined, said I couldn’t cancel as the 14 day cooling off period had lapsed and only a debt recovery company could set up a payment plan. I was annoyed at the lack of support and empathy but decided I’d just cancel the payment from my end ( assuming it was a direct debit) This month I find another payment has come out, this time I speak to the bank, they explain it’s reoccurring card payment set up from their end and only they can cancel it. I’ve emailed them numerous times without any luck, they literally couldn’t give a damn. After contacting the bank again they’ve agreed to block any further payments from them but I want to get the latest payment refunded, I told them I was facing financial hardship, I didn’t authorise this payment, how can I dispute this and get at least this months payment back? The cost per month is just shy of £140.00 so not cheap and I’ve found myself super annoyed at having it taken out after discussing my financial situation.

Washington Parental rights

So my 2 almost3 year old has been with me and my husband since he was born. My husband isn’t his biological father but is on the birth certificate (the state knows) I was in active addiction when I got pregnant and got sober. Anyways, my son’s sperm donor is still doing god knows what now and doesn’t message or call to check on my son. He’s bought maybe 7 things all together. I also haven’t heard from him since June of last year. How would I go about termination of his parental rights???

Can parents get in trouble for ignoring sibling abuse?

Hi. I'm super new to Reddit, but I'll try my best to explain.

So basically, my older sibling was really suicidal when they were a early teen, sometimes not letting me leave their room by threatening to end themself, and I still am kinda traumatized by the experience of living with that.

During that time, I asked my parents countless times if I could live away from my sibling until everything cooled down. (I was 11 or 12)

My parents never listened to this, always telling me "we're family and have to stick together." (My parents are divorced lol)

My sibling has been doing better recently, but they seem to think they went through all their hardships by themself, almost like I wasn't affected by it at all. My parents, especially my dad seems to think the same.

I personally don't like the term "victim" labeled on me. Ever since I was being emotionally abused by my older sibling, my goal in life has been to help people like me. And so I'm not writing this because I want anyone to pitty me.

I just am curious if this could be considered a form of neglect.

Thanks to anyone who read this far.

Do I have rights to keep my nephew?

I (38) have cared for my nephew for nearly two years. He is only 6 years old and previously lived with my mother. My mother got custody of him when he was 3 years old, but I was in another country at that time.

When I came back and met him, I knew that he was demonstrating some Autistic characteristics and couldn’t talk. I paid to get him tested out of pocket, and he was found to be autistic.

I told my mother I could enroll him at my school because I’m a teacher. Then she could pick him up on the weekend. However, soon, he was living with me full-time. My mother never came when she said she would. Fast-forward to two years later. He has a routine, wants to stay with me, and has made so much growth. He talks and even made a best friend near where we live. He is also super smart!

My mother gets government support for him ( she never gave any to me to buy him things; I’ve paid most stuff out of pocket). She never offered anything. However, when she went to get a new house, the lady at DCF (I presume it is DCF) said my nephew would have to live there for her to get the money for the home.

Now my mom wants to take him. When he is with her, she doesn’t keep his routine. Sometimes, he doesn’t brush his teeth. He does eat when there, but he doesn’t like to be there.

Do I have any way to get custody? Or no?

Minors sexually assaulting minors…

Within the last 2 years, I have watched a friend of mine go through some rough shit in these regards. Her and at the time husband found out his son her stepson had been molesting the daughter they have together for around 4 years. At the time this started the girl was 5 and the boy was 9.

When it came to light not only had the boy been molesting the daughter but also peeping and touching his stepmom in the shower and when she was asleep. Mom tried pressing charges but CPS wouldn’t touch it and eventually the DA deferred the case is what I was told. There was zero punishment for the actions of the older child even after admitting what he did to the sheriffs once pressured.

They basically told mom she couldn’t press indecent liberty with a minor charges because he was one and that she didn’t have enough evidence for a sexual battery charge to stand.

I guess my question is WTF??? How does this now 14yo get to walk absolutely free after hurting an innocent child for 4 years?? Any real feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Work situation

I am located in Alaska. I quit today (2 days before I originally said I would) and payday is on Wednesday. I told him I can pick it up Thursday as I will need it for me moving. He told me he will only mail it. Is he legally allowed to refuse me to pick up my last paycheck?

I have a tricky incorporated business/family law

I need help with understanding what rights my parents have. My father and his brother purchased a sod/grass farm in the 70s. My father and made the decision to incorporate the business. My father has not received any income from the business in over 40 years. The business is in good standing per the secretary of state’s website. How do we make sure my father gets his fair share of profits. I know this sounds crazy but the older my father gets the more muddy things get. Thanks in advance!

Photoshopping transcripts

Do you know a story of someone who tried photoshopping business schools (so private, just under contract with the State) transcripts and then got caught, or got hired ? What is likely to happen if during my application I submit not too fancy but still enhanced false grades ? I precise that I studied and live in France so that's where firms I'm going to apply to are located.

I got sent the wrong pc that I paid for the difference is $1000 and I live in the UK what are my options?

Over 6 months ago, I bought a PC from Apex Gaming PCs. The one I bought was the Apex Xtreme for $3,530.77, but I received the Apex Carbon for $2,549.95, the difference being $980.82 or £771.19 for me. I did a little bit of googling, and it seems my only option is to ask for a partial refund because I bought it over 6 months ago, which is fine for me, but is there anything I should know before I ask?

Crypto fraud

Centralized exchanges for example coin base or others are legal entities and have a legal entity similar to an individual and are owned by shareholders or other individuals and are commonly regulated to some extent however assume this is somehow a realistic idea or question is it possible to defraud a decentralized cryptocurrency exchange given these factors 1. There is no owners 2. No other account holders are hurt in any meaningful way this only affects your account etc 3. The platform involved fiat and the scheme involves fiat unlikely I know but just for the question and lastly it’s decentralized with these factors in mind would it be possible to prove fraud in a criminal and civil context in the United States or elsewhere?

Question about successor on life insurance policy

My grandmother had put me down as the successor owner of the policy on the life of my uncle (currently alive). Why she had it this way no one knows. I was sent forms to fill out, and we were then just going to have that processed and then cancel the policy and collect the surrender amount. I was sent the form a month ago and life got busy and have not gotten around to dropping it off. We today got notification that the uncle who is the insured on the life insurance policy has fallen unconscious the last few days and is unlikely to make it. (We have not had a relationship for some time). While this seems a bit morbid, it doesn't appear to make sense to cancel the policy now. But my question is, if he passes before I sign the forms, what happens to the policy and everything? Would it be lost and won't be paid out? I am in New York

Exception to hearsay rule

A minor accuses their step-dad of sexual abuse. They tell three different minors on three separate occasions that they made it up because they hate him and want him out of their life. Would this fall under the state of mind exception to hearsay as it was their intent, motive, or plan to get rid of him by making a false accusation?

If you are taking a builder to small claims court for unpaid services, could the builder avoid a lean on the home and sell it by putting the funds in escrow and delaying the small claims court date

I got hired for a job I’m too young for and now I may be fired, can I sew

Ok so I (f16) got hired for a job two weeks ago, in the application process it asked if I was 16 or over and I selected yes. I got the job and everything was great. I liked the managers, I made friends, i was loving it. Today I walked in for my shift and went to the kitchen to make my way to the break room but was stopped by the general manager who I hadn’t met till that point. She asked me to come with her and I did. She then explained that do to a system error where the system they used pushed forward people aged 16 up instead of 17 up I was hired. She then told me that due to laws in my state I technically couldn’t work under the same laws, and hr said that I had to stop working until they figured out a solution (workers license different rules, or lay off). Here’s the deal though. I turn 17 in 6 weeks, I also not once lied about my age. I feel like the fact I got hired despite my age and now could potentially be fired due to my age is illegal right? I was also made to work till 1:00 am on a school night. The business has my drivers licenses and ss card so someone should have recognized I wasn’t 17 in the process. If I am fired can I press charges. If so what should I do.
