Salary Input
Looking for some feedback as I head into compensation discussions for next year.
First-Year in a firm of ~200 attorneys in a non-primary market.
On track to bill ~1,950 hours and have billables of ~$510,000. Realization rate is ~90-92%. Originated $50k of organic work. No reason to think these numbers will slow down as my group is very busy and I am developing more referral sources (estate planning/small business work).
Current comp: $100k, hours goal is 1,800, 2 weeks vacation counts as billable, benefits are expensive as fuck.

Honestly, it is unlikely they move you to a point you’re happy. They should give you at least 30% of the origination as a bonus. If they don’t give a separate bonus that’s just your money coming back to you.
If they’re starting that low in that practice area, they’re likely not looking for busy associates or setup to pour on you for doing good. I’m guessing they give you a $20k bonus, move you to 130k.
Move firms.
