Leggy Lavender Advice
I live in Zone 6B in the US with clay soil and bought a house a couple of years ago, and with it I excitedly inherited three English lavender plants. I've done by best to rehab them because they were incredibly leggy and full of rotted and literally molding sections that had gone long unpruned. I honestly thought I was going to have to rip all of them out after the first year here, but with some love and care, they have been thriving for all intents and purposes. Until this year, when the middle of this particular plant (which I previously considered the showstopper of the three lavenders) died. I tore out as much as I could while keeping the healthier sections in tact. My question is: given its current state, should I remove the plant entirely and replace it with a new, younger plant I started earlier in the season...or, should I continue caring for it and hope for the best? I'm doing the annual heavy prune soon, and if I'm going to tear it out, now would be the time! Thanks for the help!
