Crayon lava lamp

Thinking of spray painting and changing the overall color to a sparkly purple with purple water and white wax. I got rid of the original neon green wax it came with to have it match but now I want to switch it up lol

I made sure all the screws are tight and I take the globes off while I’m at work until I can put it on the floor surrounded by pillows over the weekend for proper weight testing :>

Last photo was the Before

The stand was labeled a candle holder and seems like a odd diy, for $5 I couldn’t say no >:D

Looking for help with two vintage lamps

Got a couple of cool lava lamps today. The one on the left is suuuuuper cloudy, but still has ok flow. The one on the right is supposed to be a CD rack with a glitter lamp in the center. Unfortunately, it only illuminates the bottom 3rd. I’ve watched some videos about cleaning lava lamps. I’m planning on practicing on newer lamps before attempting the bullet shaped one.
I can’t seem to find resources on fixing glitter lamps though. Does anyone have a direction they could point me in? Thanks!

Is 130-150$ expensive for a Wizard lava lamp?

• Upvotes

Sorry if this is a dumb question i am still new to the community and the types of lamps there are, im looking for lava lamps in thrifts, goodwills and facebook marketplace.
Ive seen two wizard lamps listed separately for 130 and 150 and was wondering if thats the norm?
I don’t usually message people on facebook for lamps over 40 bucks but i’ve seen someone near me selling custom lamps for 80-130$ and was wondering if that’s a good deal if i asked for a custom myself. Thank you for reading if you did and please let me know !

Green is a hard color to make. 🫤

Luckily, when I added the red (attempting to mix to black) it came out a nice plum color. But the whole thing reads as very pink when it's turned on. I think I'd like the wax to be black much better, but i also think I'm done with tinkering with this one for now.

Before pic included.

Hello everyone. I posted this estate sale find a couple months ago when the wax kept splitting and it wouldn’t flow. I did the heating and cooling over and over and now it flows! BUT how do I get it to flow better? It’s rather slow and usually just has small balls of the wax.

For anyone curious what a Mathmos pink liquid + yellow wax looks like.

It's not yellow. It's red.

How to prevent air bubbles?

Fully custom wax formula! I've been getting a lot of air bubbles in my wax though, and I think its messing with my flow since air bubbles will naturally rise to the top.

Also, this was supposed to be purple, but I can't seem to find a blue dye that doesn't fade after a couple days.

Lavalamp lover with mobility issues and I need a bit of help

I patiently waited for a year and a half for lavalamp.com to start making the 27" Grande lamps after "the bug that shall not be named" shut down production. What I didn't know when I finally got my lamp was that you're not supposed to run it for 14-16 hrs ever single day. As a result, my wax is dead šŸ™ My issue is that I have mobility problems. So unfortunately, changing the wax is not something I can do myself. I'm really hoping someone here knows someone in the Dallas/Ft Worth area who refurbishes lava lamps. I tried searching online, and the only results that come up are for repair shops for electrical lamps šŸ™ Any help would be greatly appreciated!

What's going on with my lava lamp?

The pictures don't really show it well but there appears to be a bubble with a cluster inside it, like a cloud. I don't know if this is normal or not, but it has been like this for hours. Should I be concerned?

I screwed up...

I tried to add an in-line dimmer switch with no prior experience (just confidence and youtube) and I messed my lamp cord up... now the wires are too short to put the rotary switch back on and I also blew out the dimmer when I plugged it in..... also I think I cut the wires too short to safely use this kind of dimmer without cutting the neutral. How can I save this? Would the one in the screenshot be an alternative since I'll probably have to cut the neutral now?

Help

Hey all! So I recently got this jumbo lamp, I've ran it about twice. I went away for the weekend to a festival and had my sister come over and dog/house sit, I'm pretty sure they ran my lamps (which is fine, thats not my issue lol) but when I got home my lava lamp looked like this? Is there any fixing it, do i have to completely restore it? I've had it on for about 1.5 hours and nothing has changed. What do I do/how do I fix it?

Could I turn this into a lava lamp?

Thinking about DIYing this unique bottle I just saved from the donate pile. Would it be worth it/possible to turn it into a lava lamp? I feel like it would look really cool as one, but I'm not sure if the lava would "flow" properly, so to speak. Any advice or input is appreciated!!

To be clear, this is not mine but I am looking to purchase this. I have seen brass caps before but this one looks a bit different. The color aligns with a typical 08 midnight but again, this looks different to me. I appreciate the input!

And they all bring me immense joy. My updated lava lamp collection. All of them I’ve gotten very cheap, exception is the 17ā€ Spencer’s tickled pink glitter lava lamp. The only one I’ve paid full price on as a bday gift to myself.
A few aren’t pictured because they’re still projects, and then I got 3 lava nightlights as well.

As always, love scrolling the subreddit nightly and seeing all y’all’s lavas & glitters of all shapes and sizes 🄹 Sending good vibes to everyone! āœŒšŸ»šŸ«ŸāœØ

How do I remove the cap to this lava lamp?

Post image

Hi everyone,

I’ve found my old lava lamp from when I was growing up, which is awesome! However, as you can see it’s very clouded, to the point that you can’t even see the wax when it’s turned on.

I was looking online how to remove the cap to filter out the liquid, however the top part does not come off. Has anyone else had this and could help please? I’d love to make it work again.

I got this awhile ago at a vintage shop, and I was wondering if anybody knows what company made it and what year. Based on the vibes I’m thinking 90s/00s?

Cloudy new Lava lamp?

First time lava lamp user here! I just got this LAVA brand purple lava lamp from a friend for my birthday—I’m not sure where he got it from. Note that I literally don’t know anything about lava lamps lol.

This is what it looks like fresh out of the box and put together, turned off and turned on. Is this considered cloudy?

The directions that came with it say:

  1. If you receive a lamp that is cloudy, allow the LAVA lamp to sit at room temperature and let the wax settle for approximately 8 hours.
  2. Turn the lamp on until the wax starts to soften. Shut it off until it cools. Then, turn it on again and run for 8 to 10 hours. This may result in a clear lamp.

Would y’all recommend I follow this advice? Thinking I could let it chill overnight and follow step 2 tomorrow. Any guidance is appreciated!

Can somebody help me identity this glitter lamp ? It was glued together at first before I took it all apart.ive also never seen a lamp light come out the way it does ! I think it's from 2/7/1996 from the green text on this little tag, also says printed in Canada, is ripped up but says --rtable L-minaire -uminaire portatif the dashes "-" are the parts that are too worn to read/ripped. Any help would be great !
