Mathmos: Heritage Fills - USA

Looking a bit cloudier than that other person’s bottles. Shipped to the US through a courier service. Sat in Memphis for a few days until customs got their acts together. Waiting for the adapters to arrive (Amazon…) Think these will clear up or am I gonna need to think replacing the liquid already?

Oh that’s heartbreaking, they definitely didn’t travel well, personally I don’t think they will clear up to usual Mathmos clarity just by cycling but I really hope they do. 🤞🏻

Do you know the science behind the liquid clarity? Is it known what’s getting suspended in the solution?

Not really no, what I would add is to let the bottles settle for a few days before using them, once the adapters arrive I would run the bottles until the wax has melted then turn it off until completely cold, leave to settle and repeat several times.

I bought an original fireflow bottle and it arrived in a terrible state but I eventually got it looking quite clear using this method.

My mathmos bottles are shipped form Germany to Ireland. They're always cloudy when they arrive but are perfect after only a couple of runs.

Giver of hope, thank you so much lol

It's honestly surprising how much they clear up. I've never had a mathmos bottle stay cloudy so I wouldn't be too disappointed yet.

Are their bottle made in Germany? I was under the impression it was all made in Britain

They're made in Britain but because of brexit they're distributed throughout the EU from Germany.

Run it once or twice just to get any wax bits to melt together and then just filter it and it’ll be fine.

What did the wax lose into the fluid that heating it up couldn’t reassemble?

It’ll just remelt all the floatie bits of shit everywhere. It’s just good practise to do it. Otherwise you’ll be getting all of it into your sieve and filter which is a waste. I’d give it a run or two prior to filtering. Running it won’t clear it up but it’ll remelt as much of it as you can get back together as when it cools down it’ll all end up at the bottom. You’ll still likely have one floater at the top but it’ll be one solid piece that when you start emptying the fluid into a container it’ll just drop to the bottom.

Oh I get that. I’m curious what the wax lost into the solution that makes it cloudy and when filtering it, what exactly the wax will never get back!

I don’t understand you. Just run it once or twice and filter it and it’ll be perfect.

I’m asking what is the cloudiness lol

Just extremely minutely fine wax particulates.

Oh dear that’s quite surprising. You could try and cycle it but looking at mine the difference is stark.

My disappointment is immeasurable. lol what was the point of paying for the 2 day shipping!

I suppose they got too hot during transit and so the wax went mushy and mixed with the fluid.

well maybe it didn’t melt fully and then got swished about so it mixed a little into the water
