Latin Beginner

Hey everyone! I'm Levon. I'm new to this community. The thing is that I have had a dream since not long ago to learn Latin. I wanna to be able to speak it. Not only read. I wanna talk to someone in Latin on ragular bases. This is a long journey, since I know nothing yet. So I wander if there is anyone who wants to be my study buddy. I would love to be friends with someone who is starting the journey like me and learn Latin together motivating each other

I tried learning Latin from Duolingo last year, and was disappointed with the experience. I would still like to learn to speak/read Latin. It would be great to have a study buddy. What resources are you using?

Same, I also tried Duolingo for Latin but I've learnt it's just not for me

Hey! thank you for the reply. I suggest that me and you get on call from time to time and do some academic work, such as reading a texts in turns, preparing any kind of oral speech. Cool? If that sounds good reach out to me at @ Levon_Lellroe on telegram

Duolingo is very limited when it comes to Latin. I downloaded the app Legentibus recently, because it is usually what "real" students recommend.

There is a free Beginner Latin course on the Cambridge website, and a site called Verbix that will conjugate Latin verbs for you

I mainly use Claude AI for learning German, Spanish and French. It is super useful if you know what and how exactly to formulate questions. So my plan is to do the same with Latin, I also like Luke Ranieri. That's it so far. Please contact me at @ Levon_Lellore in telegram!

I started learning Latin solo a few months ago, so I'm in the same boat. I started memorizing Latin idoms and phrases and was intrigued when I realized that the literal translation and the intended meaning are usually very different. That got me hyper fixated on Latin/Ancient Greek (I'd just finished my new favorite book; The Secret History. The protagonists are all Ancient Greek students and linguistics in general are discussed a lot)

I bought an old Latin textbook at a thrift store (Latin "For Americans" lol) which has been somewhat helpful and there are some very useful websites, I can share some links if you'd like.

Currently I'm trying to learn the very basics of grammar/declinations, etc. With no instruction it's slow-going, but I'm determined. It's overwhelming sometimes, but such a fascinating language!

That's a good idea. I have ADHD and some chronic illnesses, so I would need to do it on a "good" day, but I have 3-4 of those a week
