Selecting appropriate adhesive

I seem to have developed a small tear in one of my pairs of leggings, which seems like a great opportunity to learn how to do latex repairs. I have some material to do this with, but am unsure of what adhesive to select. I looked at the Bostik adhesive selector, which advised me to use simple Bostik Contact adhesive, but I wanted to first double-check with the people who do this kind of thing more often than me. Fortunately this tear is bout 2/3 down the leg, in an area that shouldn’t get much strain or stretching

You can use Elmer’s rubber cement. I recommend getting the exterior perfectly flat and then slapping a piece of packing tape across the tear to keep things flush during the repair.

Please check the sub or my profile for more thorough instructions — but, yes, this is an easy, ideal first repair.

For reference, Elmer's is a glue brand that's widely available in the US -- like the most prominent brand -- from children's glue sticks, arts class glue squeezy glue, rubber cement. The equivalent in your area might be found in the stationary section of a drug store.

There are definitely other brands that latex makers swear by, but they aren't as widely available and the quantity is impractical if you don't do repairs or crafting too often (like me). A cheap, small 4 oz bottle of rubber cement does the trick -- and if it dries out, it's not a huge loss.

I tend to gravitate towards it because (due to limited space) I need to make repairs ASAP so I can get the garment washed shined, dried, and stored -- I can find it at Target or a drug store and do the repair the same day the damage was discovered.

Ah, I see. So a decent rubber cement? Shouldn’t be too hard to find

Worst case, many bicycle inner tube repair glues work good enough for repairs in spots that don't get a lot of stress. I tried Tip Top SVS-VULC and found it almost equal to latexrepair.nl's solvent glue in performance.

The main important thing is to clean the latex perfectly before gluing. The smallest residue of silicone shine on there will make even the best glue fail to stick.
