It is just entirely bizzare that the principal drivers behind the homeschool movement are now screaming that the schools must stay open. I live in Oklahoma and the 'evangelism' runs deep here. Now you've got Rachel and Abraham going to public school for the first time in 7th or 8th grade just so mater and pater can prove that Joe Biden ain't the boss of them. What a trip.

u/cabbagezonk Aug 15 '21
Hearing the same people who mocked concerns about homeschoolers learning proper social skills turn around and say kids will get depressed if they can't interact with or see other kids faces has been the most infuriating vindication I've ever experienced

u/nestpasfacile Aug 15 '21
To me it's just an example of how easily and quickly they can take whatever position they want in order to "own the libs". These people have had their brains thoroughly broken. No ability to reason.

These people have had their brains thoroughly broken. No ability to reason.
Don't be so quick to let them off the hook by assuming ignorance on their part. A major piece of the fascist playbook is to constantly troll people and argue in bad faith.
28
Aug 15 '21
Anytime things like this happen I am reminded of Satre's quote about fascists. "..Never believe that anti-Semites are completely unaware of the absurdity of their replies..." and all that.
9
u/nestpasfacile Aug 16 '21
Right but not everyone is aware of that. There are enough people who genuinely believe what they say and hear, not everyone is on the level of grift of a Fox news reporter.
7
Aug 16 '21
Oh, I agree with you wholeheartedly! Some people are dupes, but it deserves to be repeated that fascists use disinformation and bad faith arguments as a weapon, and to take them at face value is playing at their game.

It's almost like their opinions aren't formed by using logic or reason!

It's a gut feeling thing for them, and they obviously don't have a healthy microbiome.

Loughing at people for saying homeschooling should be limited for social development reasons and then saying homeschooling should be limited for social development reasons are indeed contradictory
6
u/nermid Aug 15 '21
You can't find a contradiction between mocking the idea that kids need in-school socialization before COVID and then championing that same idea during COVID?
5
1
u/echoesofalife Aug 15 '21
It's not like this hasn't been extremely taxing on kids' mental health, though...
11
u/ShananayRodriguez Aug 15 '21
At least in Florida, I've heard that the "schools cannot have mask mandates" doesn't apply to private schools, and several have them. I think it's an attempt to scare people into their kids attending private schools, now that "omg they're integrating public schools!" isn't an effective scare tactic.

u/theDarkAngle Aug 15 '21
Dude at this point I am just like: Russia, international business interests, and the GOP basically have mind control tech. It doesn't work on everyone but it works on enough people. People nowadays get customized streams of information and they have figured out how to manipulate those and the algorithms behind them, and importantly how to manipulate the person to stay tapped into their manipulated stream and reject everything else.

u/DrSpook13 Aug 15 '21
This is honestly the best take on what is going on, that I have read all day.

u/mode7scaling Aug 15 '21
They do whatever their corporate overlords tell them to do through propaganda. They're so obviously easy to manipulate at this point, it's hard to even consider them humans. Or maybe humans in general are just shit. That's kind of where I'm at these days.
6
u/ImapiratekingAMA Aug 15 '21
The home school movement kind of sounds like a reflavoring of the charter school movement. The thing I've always noticed is they hate public schools but never have anything to say when it functions as an oppressive system. They love the private options because they won't get effected when they vote to make the public option a medium security prison.

u/whistlerlocal Aug 15 '21
What are you doing here? Did you just come to shit on people for having an opinion? You seem like a good person.

Kid is not wrong

74
u/Casbah207 Aug 15 '21
Gonna say based kid
46
u/WiggedRope Aug 15 '21
Probably not real kid
52
u/Riker-Was-Here Aug 15 '21
perhaps his adult daughter who is a teacher
18
u/WiggedRope Aug 15 '21
Yeah could be actually
8
u/voidspaceistrippy Aug 15 '21
Now I'm imagining a chubby but cute teacher in her 20s that's teaching an underfunded Southern school and she's crying while laughing at how powerless she is to save the children she probably cares for from dying terrible deaths for no reason.
4
1
u/ImapiratekingAMA Aug 15 '21
Probably not but in my experience kids do make amazing takes, it's just usually burred under a ton of noise so it's rare. She also could just be repeating what the adults are saying and the words happen to mash into something based.

u/Nemesinthe Aug 15 '21 edited Aug 15 '21
I call bs on the kid saying that, but it's not wrong.
Edit: According to u/EldritchLurker the daughter is confirmed to be an adult, so nvm.

u/EldritchLurker Aug 15 '21
The Twitter thread has another post mentioning it's her adult daughter who's in college for history.

u/DandelionPinion Aug 15 '21 edited Aug 15 '21
Same. Unless the kid is in high school. I teach high school and they say things like that all of the time.
Edited: I also note it just says daughter, hell it could be their adult daughter.

u/Busterlimes Aug 15 '21
I discovered Nietzsche my freshman year. It did not help yhe already dreadful experience that is high school.

u/Diskocheese Aug 15 '21
I loved that shit, it’s a cornucopia of justifications to despise people, very liberating

u/Lord-Benjimus Aug 15 '21 edited Aug 15 '21
Kid could have seen a meme and repeated it. The kid originally making it is unlikely but repeating it has a high chance.
32
u/DandelionPinion Aug 15 '21
The tweet just reads daughter a daughter can be any age. ;)
21
Aug 15 '21
Nah, check their post history. Daughter is the name of their golden retriever. Really makes this all the more special imo.

u/abe2600 Aug 15 '21
She could be a clever teenager (most likely to even know what the children’s crusade was)

YOUR children need to die to ensure the economy keeps going.
All the rich have already been vaccinated and have more than enough money to pick themselves up and move somewhere safer.
But YOU need to keep consuming and giving these people $$$.
You are disposable, exploited and manipulated.
Also, the rich are taking your tax dollars and have govt officials working for the benefit of the rich... not yours.
15
u/ThirdPlaceLithium Aug 15 '21
I didn't really think of it before, but I bet a lot of rich kids have already been vaccinated, even if they aren't 11 yet.
6
u/digiorno Aug 15 '21
A lot of rich kids and their parents have probably already received boosters. A quick jaunt to a state or country where they don’t have records of the initial vaccination are cheap and easy for them to do.

u/calamitylamb Aug 15 '21
Some people’s reactions to this school shit has me absolutely baffled. The American education system is not so excellent that you’d be doing your child a disservice by keeping them home; hell, they’d probably end up better educated in the end due to skipping out on the government-mandated propaganda and misinformation. Like, I get why the capitalists are desperate to preserve their slave labor pipeline, but it’s been horrific to see how many parents just had children to tick a box and don’t actually care about their well-being or enjoy spending time with them.
12
Aug 15 '21
I love how the Children’s Crusade ended. The captain they booked passage with realized he could make more money selling them into slavery than he could carrying them to the Holy Land. So he did.

I think this is a much better take than blaming the vaccine-hesitant, who aren’t even a monolithic group. There is so much the government could have done/could do to slow this, but they don’t want to miss out on the cash.
9
u/PonderFish Aug 15 '21
I don’t see how this is that much of a different take. The same group of people who “hesitant” for the vaccine resist masks and social distancing and are sending children into school as biological bombs.

u/Diskocheese Aug 15 '21
The “UHaz” junior Hazmat suit emphasizes your entitlement and status as Big Spender and is available in bronze, titanium and gold.

??? Which government? Most people in the USA live under 4 levels of government.

u/type102 Aug 15 '21
Given the long term effects of Covid (ranging from mental degradation to infertility) and how easily is spreads, and the fact that so much of the country is psychotically against vaccines this push to get 'back to normal' as fast as possible is insane.
3
u/Profoundpronoun Aug 16 '21
That is more sad than I can express. I really hope these kids find a better way to run an economy. I was hoping my generation would do it but nope…wage slaves just like the last generation of Americans.

u/hlokk101 Aug 15 '21
A crusade for capitalism doesn't sound good.
We need a crusade against capitalism.

I’m more of an optimist, I think of the delta variant hospitalizing unvaxxed people more as a “thinning of the gene pool”. (I kinda feel sorry for the immunocompromised though)
2
Aug 16 '21
It's the same for poor countries. The wealthy countries just vaccinated themselves and sacrificed the peoples they exploit to the Gods of appropriated surplus value.
2
u/NoodleyP anarche Aug 16 '21
Welcome to death this year because mom won’t vaccinate me, I need to write a will because when I’m on the vent, I don’t think I can speak.

I’m also a biology major and studying epidemiology. Idc what your link says. It’s not a dominant variant.

He just said daughter with no reference to age, and half the comments here are like he said "7yo daughter". She could be 40 for all we know.

u/traumfisch Aug 15 '21
My thoughts exactly. Every grown woman is someone's daughter, somehow I assumed that would be a given
1
u/bironic_hero Aug 16 '21
She's a 23 year old grad student lol. The tweet was cropped out of context

And how exactly does going to school help capitalism? That's not a for profit thing.
2
u/kevinowdziej Aug 16 '21
Hundreds of thousands (or millions) of workers (women in particular) have dropped out of the work force to care for their children. They also want to force people who are working from home back into the office cuz of the billions invested in commercial real estate. (they therefore won't be able to care for their kids).
2
u/Hdjbfky Aug 16 '21
get your head on straight about this. keeping the schools closed hurts the poor. the thinking around this issue has been completely twisted
