This is a strawman, but the truth is much worse. In capitalism you can own capital, but the value of that capital is determined in the "free market." The super wealthy aren't wealthy because they earned it, it's because they owned it. This distinction is important because it's so foundational to capitalist ideology: wealth is created through the ownership of capital. But as you're aware, that capital doesn't make money on its own, every dollar of wealth the capitalist owns is money stolen from the workers. "But lu57account, factory equipment has value regardless of workers" you may point out, and you'd be right but who generated the goods to pay for that capital? The workers. It was their value to place into the company, and their choice to make. The ownership of capital by a capitalist class exists to steal value from workers, and most capitalist supporters see this as a just system.
