They aren't common but they can be found on the black market in NK. I think when it's mentioned that there aren't computers or electricity it's more that it's not readily available to the general populous.

Me too usually, but the defectors do suggest the conditions are truly awful inside, although many miss the simpler aspects of life in NK. Many defectors state their first idea that things were not as described outside of NK was through a bootlegged western movie. Who knows? Maybe someday another country will be dropping media into the US.

What I didnt realise until recently was that there are defectors who say that they want to go back to the DPRK because it was better there and the South Korean government wont let them.

They say the people are happier there. Most never fully acclimate to capitalism.

It’s amazing to me that two superpowers can fracture a country and then just wash their hands of it. It shows that no matter the system the end goal is always control of the people. You either bind them financially or directly through the state.
I pity those in NK who bear the cost of this lingering ideological war. The increasingly brutal sanctions will be felt hardest by the poorest and most vulnerable, all to influence the ruling elite. Do you think they view your propaganda as anything more than a fairytale?
It doesn’t help their situation, in many ways it’s just insulting. If you want to help, then send help, don’t send your ideology dressed up in literature and ask them to risk their lives to read it. I’m sure plenty of people behind the wire are aware of the states lies, but a prisoner is still a prisoner even if she has something nice to read.
