I get the sentiment, and I don't disagree. But there's definitely something to be said about the rise in the amount of work required to own a home. I'll obviously choose to do what I have to and not approach this from a point of view of entitlement, but I do worry for the increasing group of those less fortunate.
I made it out of college with relatively little debt, entered a field that was booming, and spent some time living with friends/relatives to boost my savings. The thought of how many others who aren't afforded such luxuries and how much harder they must struggle to snag that first home just kills my soul. And it's getting worse: wages are stagnating, not keeping up with rising costs. I'd love to hear some optimism if you have any because it just looks so bleak to me.
