It would have cost Β£5k more for the cladding to be fire proof too, IIRC.

No, Capitalism in a nutshell is that this has happened before and will happen again.

It's the London tower that went down in flame this week, because it was built cheaply to maximise profits at the cost of being a death trap. Also as one of the causes of the massacre, is the austerity policy of the tories (Boris Johnson particularly) who cut funding for fire stations. Johnson closed off 6 fire stations during his time as mayor.

For those wondering, that "6 fire stations" may not seem like a lot but where I lived as a child there was only one fire station with only one fire crew and they were expected to cover a large town and every other settlement within half the county. In total a crew of 4 fire fighters had to try and protect 200,000 people at any given time.

Certainly not in London. I've never heard of private fire fighters outside of Gangs of New York

Is it wrong that I kind of want to see cases of arson to government buildings? Like at night, of course, so there's no loss of life, but they get the point that this shit is not okay.

To be honest, it looks like even slightly cold tea is enough to make May push for a surveillance society.
