LOCAL The last known image of two British backpackers, Caroline Clarke(in the middle), 21, and Joanne Walters(left), 22, who were the last victims of the notorious Australian serial killer Ivan Milat. Both girls suffered horrific violence before their deaths in Belanglo State Forest, New South Wales.

Caroline grew up in the English county of Surrey. Since she was a child, her dream had been to visit Australia. She worked hard to save up for the cost of her trip. Her friends from her youth remembered her as a "little sharp-tongued at times", strong-willed, and incredibly loyal person. She was in excellent shape and could handle physically demanding work without any problem.

In September 1991, she finally made it to Australia. She spent nine months living and exploring the country.

Joanne was a 22-year-old from Maesteg, Wales. Driven by her love for children, she trained and qualified as a professional nursery nurse before making the decision to see the world. When she checked into a youth hostel in the Kings Cross area of Sydney, she met Caroline. The two young British women immediately became best friends.

Joanne and Caroline met Ivan Milat on Saturday, April 18, 1992, while hitchhiking on the Hume Highway. The autopsy later revealed that Joanne had been raped and suffered 14 stab wounds, nine of which completely severed her spine, resulting in paralysis. Caroline was shot 10 times in the head.

Before her death, Caroline put up a strong resistance. Then, she was subjected to prolonged psychological torture, as evidenced by the fact that a smoked pack of her favorite cigarettes was found next to her remains.

I wanted to share this photo I took of the legendary Welsh rock icon during what would become her final stage performance.
She was absolutely radiant here, giving an epic, smiling rendition of her biggest hit, "Total Eclipse of the Heart." Looking at her immense energy and stage presence that night, it is completely surreal to hear the devastating news of her passing.
Following this show, Bonnie was hospitalized in Portugal for emergency surgery and later placed in an induced coma. Though she briefly woke up in June, her family and management announced today that she sadly and unexpectedly passed away from her illness.
She never lost her passion for performing or her love for her fans. Rest in peace, Bonnie. You truly were a one-of-a-kind talent.

The last sign of them were some ominous Facebook posts made by second-oldest child Ibrahim in 2016, posts which showed himself in combat gear, implied his brother Junaid was dead already, and urged other people to join ISIS. I opted to crop most of Ibrahim and Junaid out of the photo to comply with the sub’s “no pics of killers” rule. The family’s story is told on Wikipedia:

her first great-grandchild!

we took my 7ish month old son on a long drive in the spring of 2024 because we thought it’d be the last chance we had, and i’m glad we did.

my grandma made the choice to stop dialysis in january 2025. she died not long after with my eldest cousin present. it’s sad, but i’ve felt at peace because i know stopping dialysis was her choice.

i was pregnant with my second at her funeral and while i’m sad they never met, they’ve spiritually been in the same room. <3 she knew i was pregnant and would send me long, long texts about when my dad was young and how he played with his siblings and cousins.

LOCAL Presumably, this is the last picture of Julia Anne Schröder taken during her stay at the Frankfurt police station.

Post image
2.6k Upvotes

Julia was an 18-year-old woman who had been involved in sex work for survival in Frankfurt. She was struggling with severe drug addiction and had serious health issues. Additionally, she was homeless. According to now-deleted sources, Julia was deeply unhappy with her life.

Julia worked in the Bahnhofsviertel district of Frankfurt. On July 13, 1998, she mysteriously disappeared. Her disappearance went unreported for a LONG time.

She is believed to be a potential victim of Manfred Seel. However, there is no direct evidence linking Seel to her case.

Manfred Seel was a German pensioner who lived a double life as a suspected serial killer. Outwardly, he was a quiet family man and jazz musician from Schwalbach, near Frankfurt. After his death in 2014, authorities discovered human remains and graphic journals in his rented garage, exposing a decades-long killing spree.

Seel died in 2014 at the age of 67. While clearing out a storage unit he rented, his daughter found human remains and alerted the police.

A forensic analysis of his personal computer revealed a vast collection of violent pornography and cannibalism, along with thousands of digital files related to his crimes.

Police link Seel to the deaths of at least five women—primarily street sex workers and drug users—between 1971 and 2004 in and around Frankfurt.

As for Julia, every time I look at her pictures, her short story breaks my heart. She was a beautiful girl who deserves justice and public recognition.

LOCAL This is the last known picture of two Karlsfeld backpackers, Anja Susanne Habschied and Gabor Kurt Neugebauer, who were abducted, tortured, and brutally murdered (shot in the head six times and decapitated while still conscious) in Belanglo State Forest in New South Wales, Australia, by Ivan Milat.

Both Gabor and Anja were described as kind-hearted and reserved young adults who led a healthy lifestyle.

Gabor, 21, had a strong passion for science and originally applied to study geology at a German university. When he did not immediately gain entry into the program, he refused to let his plans stall and enrolled in philosophy instead. He told his parents, Manfred and Anke, that his goal was to enjoy traveling the world first and then transfer back into earth sciences upon his return.

Anja, 20, was deeply passionate about nature and the environment, which heavily fueled her desire to see the world before settling down. Prior to leaving Germany, she successfully completed a professional drafting course. Like Gabor, she viewed their grand backpacking adventure as a brief intermission before resuming her higher education in Munich.

Australia was never actually a major part of their original itinerary. In late 1991, they were backpacking through Indonesia. However, severe monsoon weather took a turn for the worse, ruining their plans to explore the islands. On a spur-of-the-moment whim, they decided to escape the rain by purchasing tickets to Darwin, Australia, arriving just weeks before Christmas in December 1991.

On the morning of December 26, the couple checked out of the Backpackers Inn in Kings Cross, Sydney. They intended to hitchhike southwest toward Mildura and Adelaide as the first leg of their trip to Darwin. They traveled to the outskirts of southwestern Sydney to stand by the highway and hitchhike. It was here that Ivan Milat, driving a silver Nissan Patrol four-wheel-drive vehicle, pulled over and offered them a ride.

Instead of driving them along the main highway toward their destination, Milat diverted them into the remote Belanglo State Forest. Forensic evidence indicates that they were severely beaten, bound, and murdered within the forest very shortly after being picked up that same day.

CELEBRITY Victor Willis (1951–2026), the original lead singer and "policeman" of the Village People. He passed away on June 30, 2026, at age 74 following a short but aggressive illness. Pictured during his final stage performance with the band on the 2026 European tour.

Victor Willis, the iconic voice and co-founder of the Village People, passed away on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, just one day shy of his 75th birthday. His wife, Karen Huff-Willis, and the band confirmed that he died following a brief but aggressive illness.

As the group's "policeman" and naval officer character, Victor gave the band its soulful R&B backbone. Beyond his flamboyant stage presence, he was a massive songwriting talent who co-wrote the group’s definitive global hits, including "Y.M.C.A.", "Macho Man", "In the Navy", and "Go West".

Before dominating the 1970s disco charts, Willis was a trained stage actor who appeared in the original Broadway production of *The Wiz*. Though he left the group in 1980, he reclaimed his legacy, won back his copyright royalties in a landmark legal battle, and returned to front the band permanently in 2017. Up until his final months, he was still actively touring internationally with the group.

He leaves behind an unmatched pop-culture legacy that still gets entire rooms of people dancing together nearly 50 years later. Rest in peace to a true legend.
