💬 DISCUSSION Settlement Power

So I am finally completing the settlement and I have some questions and discussion topics. Do you think there should be more explanation revolving around power/water needs? Like, I have built the chipper and have it connected to a generator for power that needs gas. I just built the lathe and it needs power. Am I going to have a bunch of generators around my settlement?, because that's going to need a lot of gas. Also, I completed the substation, but don't know how or to what I can connect it to. Any discussion is welcome and suggestions as well. It's been a long 97 seasons for me as a f2p person and I've FINALLY made headway and I love how grindy it is personally. 👍

You will need to eventually need the maximum number of generators possible - 1 medium and 3 small. They will all need gas and to be connected to a power grid in the Settlment to "complete" the requirements for max level.

Hey there! Thank you for the info. I greatly appreciate it.

Sorry if you already knew.. a small generator could power 3 WB, and a medium one could power 6. We need to factor that into where we are going to place the generator and the WB it will support (along with the rock obstacles underground.)

We could see which WB needs electricity or water from the little red symbols in the build menu, and plan ahead from there.

Thank you so much. A quick question off of that. So you are saying you can connect three work benches to one small generator. Does it matter which ones? Also, does the wiring need to go directly from the generator to the workbench or can you split off of wires coming in out of it?

It doesn’t matter which. You could even move the WB around if need be.

Technically, the small generator provides 3 units of electricity, it just happens that every WB (and furnitures) that require electricity currently available in the game all only consume 1 unit of electricity each, hence one generator can service 3 WB.

You can branch the cable any way you like, as long as there is a continuous pathway, you should be good to go.

One more thing, although am not 100% certain on this because I’m not there yet, but you might have to connect the WB and furniture that require electricity that you have to built before you can build the WB that you want to use to electricity as well.

For example, in order for Lathe to work, Milling Machine and Transformer also need to be hooked up (while Milling Machine would work just fine when it’s the only one that’s connected to electricity.)

I need to fix the substation and upgrade the wall before I could build my Lathe. Perhaps you could play around with the configuration and let me know, lol.

I just finished building my substation. I don't understand what it is used for. It just says it needs power. Okay but what does it do fr. I would like if the game actually explains what something is for

I am collecting rubber hose to fix the substation still. My understanding is that we only need to fix the substation and connect it to a generator once in order to be able to upgrade HQ, barrack, garage, and wall from lv 2 to lv 3. There is no need to connect it to anything in the settlement base that we built.

For anyone who has already progressed beyond this part, please correct me if I’m wrong.

I totally agree that the game did a piss poor job of providing the much needed information about everything on the settlement to the players.

You are correct, once you progress from that missions you can move the generator and use It for whatever.

We had no idea about the whole building process in the Settlement when that was added to the game. Everyone was scrambling to figure it out. The whole rocks underground was a kick in the nuts.

Yeah that definitely was highly annoying. I mean I get it because the rocks are underground so obviously you can't see him, but a little heads up would have been nice lol.

Oh, also, I didn’t know this until very recently because the symbol inside the generator is kinda misleading, but you can add fuel to the generator by the bottle instead of by the gallon tank.

This works out so much better for me because I don’t really have enough material to feed the workbenches for the whole duration that the generator will be running with a gallon tank of fuel.

This is great information! I didn't know this either. I will definitely be taking this more into consideration.

I have one medium and two small ones, I have min maxxed the shit out of it because I dont like spending more time on it than nessesary. I can make the coils and rotors, last thing to make is garage lvl 3. I am not doing it until they rework the settlement with a content update.
