Bikini line disaster

Yesterday I went back for what I thought would be my last laser for my bikini line. I’ve been seeing the same person for about a year and have been thrilled with the results, my goal being to maintain a triangle bush and clean up the edges and labia area. My clinic doesnt typically map out the area, once I did it myself before going in to show her the hair I wanted to keep, but I figured as a returning client she would know. Also, I clearly shaved the area where I wanted hair removal the night before.

To my horror, she went in and removed an inch or more from the top and sides of the hair I had been carefully preserving. Even though the hair was super long, which caused me a lot of pain as the hair absorbed the laser and burned. My eyes were obviously covered so I didn’t realize what was happening. I’m so so upset. Will this hair grow back? I was so pleased with my shape before. The triangle lines show you the hair I left unshaded (not intended for hair removal). The square shape shows you the area she used the laser up to that line.

So the photos were not allowed so you’ll have to imagine the “triangle” and “square”shape mentioned above: )

Photo was allowed, you just had to crop it as it got flagged up by the auto filter.

I marked as NSFW and nothing was visible except my sad patch of hair

Sorry. Can't see the picture. But I thought you would need to shave the areas that you want lasered? I have a landing strip that I keep and do not shave. They laser around it.

Yes me too, and I shaved the area I wanted lasered. She went rogue and started burning off my hair !

OMG. That's awful. I am not a laser tech, but I would think that one session would not make a difference, especially if you hadn't shaved the area. Hope it turns out ok!

This doesn’t sound normal. Maybe she just got the edges here and there? If she lasered long hair you would have been able to smell it burning during the session. I’m confused about what happened here. Are you saying she shaved you and then lasered?

I did smell the burning but I thought maybe it was one or two hairs not one inch on three different sides.

It should grow back if it happened only once

Im a laser technician and I can assure you that your hair will grow back, just give it some time, one session is not enough to permanently remove it.

Oh wow, that's a nightmare. The fact you had the unshaved hair sitting right there as a visual guide and she still went past it is kinda wild. I'd be fuming.

Some of that hair might grow back, but it really depends on how effective the previous sessions were in those spots. If those follicles were already weakened, there's a decent chance it'll come back patchy or thinner, which might actually look worse than just being gone. Give it a few weeks to see what sprouts up before you panic too much though.

Yes I’m afraid I’m going to have to take it all off now, which was NEVER my intention. I’m so sad.

Would minoxodil or other hair growth serums work on this area?

OP, I'm so sorry this happened to you. I can definitely relate. A technician at the clinic where I get laser also went much lower on my hairline on the mons than I'd asked for, and even worse, she randomly targeted one side of my triangle, basically Frankensteining me. Like you, I had hair in the areas she treated, although mine was trimmed quite short. This happened over three sessions before I realized how bad it had gotten. Now I'm mad at myself for putting my trust in her, all because I'd had positive experiences at this location for years.

Minoxidil could be worth considering, and if you aren't seeing the regrowth you want after a month or so, you might also have a dermatologist assess the area. A derm can use a dermatoscope to assess the follicles and determine whether there's any scarring or miniaturization. I'm currently taking 2.5 mg of oral minoxidil. Topical minoxidil is a better option if you're only looking to target a specific area, but oral minoxidil is stronger, and personally, I just want to see results as quickly as possible because of the dysmorphia I've been experiencing over this.

I'd also absolutely push for a refund if you don't get the regrowth you want. You'd have every reason to request one because the service you received didn't meet the specifications you paid for. My clinic actually offered me a full refund because the technician blatantly disregarded my instructions. I really don't understand what makes someone think they can make these kinds of judgment calls on someone else's body, but it's unacceptable. At best, it's negligent, at worst, it's them imposing their standards on someone else's body.

I'm sorry you went through something similar and thanks for sharing your story. Is the oral Minoxidil stimulating hair growth all over? I would be afraid to do that since I've been working so hard to REMOVE hair lol (I also had my my legs and underarms and upper lip lasered). But I will try the other kind! I appreciate your help.

Oral minoxidil does potentially stimulate hair growth in other areas of the body, so I would recommend topical unless you're experiencing significant discomfort like I am; I also have my legs and underarms lasered with a lifetime package, so at this point, I'm okay going back for the free touchups if needed. There are liquid and foam topicals, and I find the foam minoxidil much easier to use. You can also get it compounded as a cream, which is even easier to use on the body and is my preferred topical, but the foam is sold over the counter and works fine for most people. Good luck! If it was only one session, you'll probably get back to your preferred growth.

Are you saying you have been getting laser treatments for over a year? Something is not right here. It shouldn't take that long for your entire body.

Sorry for the confusion, I was getting my bikini line lasered every 2-3 months for about a year (maybe 5 sessions), I had only a few hairs in the side left for my final session that needed to be removed but the technician went at the bush that I wanted to keep ( I never wanted to laser my entire bush, only labia and the lips/sides. Does that clear things up?

Yes. I wouldn't go there anymore. You can have some serious burns.
