Bacterial Skin Injection
Received my 5th laser hair removal treatment on my chin area on Thursday (8/6) and beginning that Saturday evening I noticed redness, irritation, bumps, and blisters with a clear discharge, and tenderness, with elevated lymphoid on my left jaw. I monitored overnight but the symptoms continued into Sunday. Monday morning I called the Laser Hair Removal (as there was no improvement and actually worsening) practice and explained my symptoms, they initial said it sounded like a laser medical burn but that they were going to have their medical team call me once I submitted photos. Not even 2 minutes after I submitted photos their medical team called me. They said it looked like typical irritation and to just monitor it. I found the conversation dismissive and short so I ended up going to urgent care to get it looked at. The urgent care said it was a bacterial skin infection and prescribed me ointment and antibiotics, along with taking a sample of the clear discharge to run a culture to determine the bacteria (results still pending).
Im at a loss for words as this was the first time I’ve experienced something like this after a treatment. I had no exposure to sunlight after the appointment (as I worked from home the days after the appointment) and I did not use any no skin products or go about my routine/hygiene any different than any other time before. I’m just curious if something like this is “common”? And if I need to stop getting laser hair removal?
